Article Synopsis
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease affecting young adults, where the immune system attacks the protective myelin sheath of nerve cells, leading to neurological symptoms.
  • The study aims to analyze the glycosylation profiles of immunoglobulin G (IgG) in suspected MS patients through advanced techniques like MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry to identify differences in glycan patterns associated with varying oligoclonal band types.
  • Findings indicate that changes in IgG glycosylation may act as potential biomarkers for MS, aiding in understanding the disease's mechanisms and improving diagnostic methods.

  • Midostaurin is the first targeted treatment for AML FLT3 and reduces mortality by 23% compared to standard chemotherapy, but it has side effects, especially gastrointestinal issues.
  • A case was reported where a patient experienced acute pancreatitis symptoms after starting midostaurin, including abdominal pain and elevated enzyme levels.
  • The patient was treated with IV hydration and anti-symptomatic care, recovering after four days, but drug-induced acute pancreatitis remains a rare and complicated diagnosis without established links to midostaurin despite various potential mechanisms.

Abernethy syndrome is a rare congenital vascular anomaly. In this condition, blood from the portal system is diverted to the caval system through a portocaval shunt, entirely or partially bypassing the liver. Prevalence figures in the literature range from 1 per 30000 population up to 1 per 50000 population.

Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis represents a group of disorders characterized by defective bile excretion, which causes a multitude of clinical symptoms of variable severity and usually begins in childhood. During the past few decades, a number of gene sequence variants have been shown to be associated with progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis, and new subtypes continue to be discovered. Sequence variants of the ubiquitinspecific peptidase 53 gene have previously been associated with a novel autosomal recessive form of cholestasis with coincident normal or low γ-glutamyl transferase, with mild phenotypes.

Objectives: Extrahepatic portal vein obstruction is the most common cause of portal hypertension in children. This study aimed to evaluate the causes, clinical, laboratory and endoscopic findings, treatment approaches, long-term results, and prognosis of extrahepatic portal vein obstruction in children.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 82 patients who were followed up with the diagnosis of extrahepatic portal vein obstruction at Gazi University Pediatric Gastroenterology clinic between January 1, 2011, and October 31, 2021.

Article Synopsis
  • - Inborn errors of bile acid synthesis are rare genetic disorders that can lead to liver disease and cholestasis, with symptoms varying from mild to severe, and diagnosed through genetic tests or urine analysis.
  • - The study involved evaluating data from 10 patients diagnosed between 2013 and 2023, revealing different types of deficiencies, with the most common being 3β-hydroxy-Δ5-C27-steroid dehydrogenase deficiency.
  • - Treatment approaches included cholic acid for most patients, with some requiring liver transplants or having severe outcomes, highlighting the potential for liver disease and complications from nutrient absorption issues.

Aim: The aim of this study is to develop a new instrument (The Lean Management Scale for Nursing Services in Hospitals- LMS-N) to evaluate the lean levels of nursing services in hospitals and to evaluate its psychometric properties.

Method: A three-phase construct was used to develop this scale and to determine its psychometric properties: (1) creating the item pool, (2) preliminarily evaluating items and (3) evaluating psychometric properties. This methodological study evaluated the scale's face, content and construct validities, internal consistency, and temporal stability.

Rare genetic variants can have strong effects on phenotypes, yet accounting for rare variants in genetic analyses is statistically challenging due to the limited number of allele carriers and the burden of multiple testing. While rich variant annotations promise to enable well-powered rare variant association tests, methods integrating variant annotations in a data-driven manner are lacking. Here we propose deep rare variant association testing (DeepRVAT), a model based on set neural networks that learns a trait-agnostic gene impairment score from rare variant annotations and phenotypes, enabling both gene discovery and trait prediction.

Introduction: Patients with leukaemia are exposed to infections as long as they are neutropenic. During this period, anorectal pathologies are among the common foci of infection with high mortality. In this study, we aim to investigate the factors that may have a predictive effect on early diagnosis and rapid intervention in perianal complications occurring in neutropenic patients diagnosed with leukaemia.
