A 15-year-old boy sustained a high-voltage electrical injury with full-thickness scalp and calvarial bone necrosis in the parieto-occipital region. While necrotic soft tissues were debrided on the fifth day of injury, the devitalized calvaria was preserved. Bilayered coverage of the necrotic bone was achieved by transposition of 'bipedicled pericranial flap' and 'bipedicled scalp flap'.

The adrenal gland is a common site of disease, with an abnormality prevalence as high as 9% in autopsy series. With the increasing use of CT, adrenal lesions are frequently found in the daily practice of radiology and are diagnosed in up to 5% of CT examinations performed for varied reasons. Imaging features on CT can establish a specific diagnosis of many of these lesions, including myelolipoma, hematoma and cysts.

Article Synopsis
  • Urea breath test (UBT) results can be falsely negative in patients on antisecretory drugs, but citric acid may help prevent this issue.
  • A study was conducted with 60 Helicobacter pylori positive patients taking either pantoprazole or ranitidine, with follow-up breath tests at specified intervals.
  • Despite the use of acidified 14C-urea capsules, the results showed no significant improvement in preventing false negatives, and the duration of medication did not impact the test outcomes.

Background/aims: Bile duct injuries (BDI) usually need operative repair and remain as a challenge even for surgeons who specialize in hepatobiliary surgery. The objective of this study was to define the presentation, in-hospital management, and mid- to long-term outcome of BDIs during laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) referred to a tertiary center in their early period.

Methodology: From January 1996 to January 2006, 31 patients with BDI sustained during or after LC were treated at our institution.

Background: Because patients with major depression have an altered autonomic nervous system activity, the risk of arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death may be increased. In addition, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) may cause an acute rise in QT dispersion, which may predispose to arrhythmias. In this study, we investigated the effects of propofol or etomidate on the corrected QT (QTc) interval during ECT in patients with major depression.
