The effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy on tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes in patients with breast cancer.

This study investigated the effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) on stromal tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (sTILs) and their treatment response. 115 patients with pre-NAC core biopsies and post-NAC surgical resection specimens were reviewed. There was no significant change between pre- and post-treatment sTILs.

Evaluation of the Relationship Between Aquaporin-1, Hepcidin, Zinc, Copper, and İron Levels and Oxidative Stress in the Serum of Critically Ill Patients with COVID-19.

Our study aims to determine the relationship between hepcidin, aquaporin (AQP-1), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), iron (Fe) levels, and oxidative stress in the sera of seriously ill COVID-19 patients with invasive mechanical ventilation. Ninety persons with and without COVID-19 were taken up and separated into two groups. The first group included seriously COVID-19 inpatients having endotracheal intubation in the intensive care unit (n = 45).

Psychological impacts of COVID-19 pandemic in cancer patients on active treatment.

Introduction: Although cancer patients have a high risk of exposing COVID-19 and developing severe complications, they have to receive active treatment. We aimed to determine the psychological conditions of cancer patients and shed light on the establishment of early psychological intervention and intervention policies by making specific recommendations.

Method: We consecutively evaluated 385 cancer patients under treatment.

A Comparative Study: Platelet-Rich Fibrin Packing as an Alternative to the Absorbable Gelatine in Tympanoplasty.

Background: We aimed to investigate platelet-rich fibrin's potential role as packing material in both the middle ear and external auditory canal.

Methods: Twenty-nine patients undergoing transcanal endoscopic type 1 cartilage tympanoplasty were included in this controlled prospective clinical study. Patients were randomly assigned to platelet-rich fibrin (n=14) or absorbable gelatine (n=15) groups.

The Effect of Mild Hypocapnia on Postoperative Ecchymosis in Rhinoplasty.

Purpose: Ecchymosis and edema are the most common complications in patients following rhinoplasty in the early postoperative period. Vasoconstriction created by hypocarbia may have a positive effect on postoperative ecchymosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of mild hypocapnia induced in rhinoplasty on the severity of periorbital ecchymosis.

Pediatric Penile Bee Sting.

Objectives: The aims of this study, for the first time in the literature, are to evaluate the symptoms, clinical course, and treatment management of penile bee stings in children and to discuss whether bee stings can be evaluated within the scope of summer penile syndrome.

Methods: Records of all pediatric patients presented to the emergency department of our hospital from June 2020 to October 2021 due to bee sting of penis were reviewed. Only patients with isolated penile bee stings were included in the study.

The aim of this study was to identify injury characteristics in military personnel with thoracoabdominal combat injuries resulting from terrorist attacks in urban settings.

Material And Methods: A retrospective study of military personnel with thoracoabdominal injuries who were referred to a tertiary center after treating and stabilizing at a primary healthcare organization due to terror-related injuries in various urban regions of Turkey between June 2015 and December 2016 was performed.

Postpartum hemorrhage is the most important and also preventable cause of maternal morbidity and mortality worldwide. Arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is a rare cause of postpartum hemorrhage. We present a case of arteriovenous malformation, which may be one of the rare but potentially fatal causes of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH).

Highlights of clinical and laboratory parameters among severe COVID-19 patients treated with tocilizumab: a retrospective observational study.

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can cause cytokine release syndrome (CRS), which leads to high mortality rates. Tocilizumab suppresses CRS by blocking the signal transduction of interleukin-6 (IL-6).

Objective: To evaluate the clinical and laboratory parameters associated with mortality among patients receiving tocilizumab treatment.

Evaluation of platelet-rich plasma efficacy in melasma.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), which is widely used in many dermatologic conditions, has also been used in the treatment of melasma in recent years. The objective of this study is to determine the efficacy of PRP in melasma. Fifteen female patients with melasma participated in this study.

Purpose: We aimed to evaluate and compare the efficacy and complications of three consecutive prone positions (PP) in COVID-19 ICU.

Materials And Method: Patients with ARDS and placed in PP for 3 times (PP1, PP2, PP3) consecutively were included. Arterial blood gases (ABG), partial pressure of arterial oxygen/fraction of inspired oxygen (PaO/FiO) ratios, partial pressure of carbondioxide (PaCO), PEEP, and FiO were recorded before (bPP), during (dPP), and after (aPP) every prone positioning.

Uncommon presentation of Meckel's diverticulum in a child with decompensated hypovolemic shock.

Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract and may cause serious complications such as intestinal obstruction, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, or inflammation with/without perforation, which can present with non-spe-cific symptoms and signs. We report on the case of a 2.5-year-old boy admitted to our emergency department in poor condition, with compatible signs of decompensated hypovolemic shock.

Altered Development of Amygdala-Connected Brain Regions in Males and Females with Autism.

Altered amygdala development is implicated in the neurobiology of autism, but little is known about the coordinated development of the brain regions directly connected with the amygdala. Here we investigated the volumetric development of an amygdala-connected network, defined as the set of brain regions with monosynaptic connections with the amygdala, in autism from early to middle childhood. A total of 950 longitudinal structural MRI scans were acquired from 282 children (93 female) with autism and 128 children with typical development (61 female) at up to four time points (mean ages: 39, 52, 64, and 137 months, respectively).

Rapid On-site Evaluation and Final Cytologic Diagnoses Correlation During Endobronchial Ultrasonography.

Background: The cost-effectiveness and low rate of inadequate sampling with the use of rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) along with endobronchial ultrasonography (EBUS) is well established. Our aim in this study was to evaluate the correlation of ROSE during EBUS and final cytologic diagnosis and also to see if ROSE might predict the subtype of lung cancer.

Patients And Methods: All consecutive subjects who attended our clinic between January 2016 and January 2019 for the evaluation of pathologic mediastinal and/or hilar lymph nodes (LNs)/mass using EBUS were enrolled into our prospective study.

Atezolizumab combined with chemotherapy in the first-line treatment of extensive-stage small cell lung cancer: a real-life data of the Turkish Oncology Group.

Purpose: Atezolizumab has been shown to be effective and safe in randomized trial in the first-line treatment of extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (SCLC). However, there are limited real-life data on atezolizumab. In this study, we aimed to determine the real-life efficacy and safety of atezolizumab combined with chemotherapy in the first-line treatment of extensive-stage SCLC.

The comparison of short-term results of marsupialization method in operated patients with acute pilonidal abscess and chronic pilonidal sinus.

Objectives: This study aimed to compare the short term results of the marsupialization method for the treatment of patients with acute pilonidal abscess and chronic pilonidal sinus disease treated in single step and to investigate the feasibility of final pilonidal sinus treatment in single step in patients with pilonidal abscess.

Material And Methods: A total of 58 patients who were operated on using the marsupialization method were included in this study. Patients with acute pilonidal abscess were included in Group 1 (23 patients) and those with chronic pilonidal sinus disease were included in Group 2 (35 patients).

Repeated use of fibrin sealants kept at room temperature in conjunctival autografting: An animal study.

Purpose: In this study, our aim was to investigate if fibrin adhesives used in conjunctival wound surgery with autologous conjunctival grafts could be used repeatedly at different times after surgical opening.

Methods: 40 New Zealand rabbits were used in the study. These animals were divided into four groups, each consisting of 10 rabbits, and hence 20 eyes.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY As in orthopedic trauma patients, a hyperinflammatory response due to cytokine release occurs in patients with moderate and severe COVID-19 infection. In these patients, untimely surgical intervention can create more destructive situations in the postoperative period. Our aim in this study was to investigate the effect of COVID-19, trauma and surgical intervention on acute phase reactants' levels in patients with and without COVID-19 infection.

Role of annexin A3 in breast cancer (Review).

Annexins are a large group of proteins occurring in numerous cell types. Annexins have roles in events such as coagulation inhibition, endocytosis, exocytosis, signal transduction, proliferation and programmed cell death. The association of annexins with numerous diseases has been reported.

Autoimmune disease of head and neck, imaging, and clinical review.

Autoimmune disease of the head and neck (H&N) could be primary or secondary to systemic diseases, medications, or malignancies. Immune-mediated diseases of the H&N are not common in daily practice of radiologists; the diagnosis is frequently delayed because of the non-specific initial presentation and lack of familiarity with some of the specific imaging and clinical features. In this review, we aim to provide a practical diagnostic approach based on the specific radiological findings for each disease.
