The post-harvest processing of coffee beans leads to a wide range of reactions involving proteins. The formation of crosslinks between proteins and phenolic compounds present in high concentrations of coffee beans represents one of the most challenging and still not fully characterized reactions. The aim of this work was to assess the presence of products from such reactions in coffee samples, focusing on the adducts between cysteine and chlorogenic acids (CQAs).

Leishmaniasis causes significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. In our country, there has been a significant increase in the number of cases of leishmaniasis in the last decade. In our study, the effects of Hypericum thymbrifolium, Hypericum scabrum and Eryngium creticum plant extracts were tested on Leishmania major, Leishmania tropica and Leishmania infantum/donovani, which were clinically resistant by not responding to Glucantime® therapy.

In this original research, biodegradable corn starch (CS) and wheat gluten (wg)-based silver nanofilms were synthesized and analyzed by using goji berry extract taurine (ta), garlic extract (GC), whey powder (wh), and montmorillonite clay nanoparticles. Antibacterial-corn-starch-based nano films were analyzed by using the methods of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), dynamic and mechanical (DMA) analysis, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In addition, the antibacterial resistances of the corn starch nano films against the bacteria and () and were examined and the migration assays were carried out.

This study examines the effects of three different drugs with metformin, acarbose and pioglitazone active ingredients used for antidiabetic purposes on cysts and trophozoites. Cultures of trophozoites and cysts were prepared to test the anti-amoebic activity of metformin, acarbose and pioglitazone. Cultures were then prepared for cyst and trophozoite forms and parasites were exposed to different concentrations (0.

This paper presents a unique penta-band metamaterial absorber platform for terahertz imaging systems. The proposed fractal metamaterial absorber (FMMA) consists of fractal triangle section metasurfaces. By combining fractal resonators posing different operation skills in the same unit cell, the absorber shows multiband spectral response.

Article Synopsis
  • Cats became friends with people about 12,000 years ago, when humans started farming instead of hunting.
  • Wildcats helped control the number of rodents that were attracted to farms, which benefited both the cats and the farmers.
  • Scientists studied cat DNA to trace their origins, finding that most domestic cats come from areas around the eastern Mediterranean, and their migration patterns follow those of early humans.

The α-amylase/trypsin inhibitors (ATIs) are discussed as being responsible for non-celiac wheat sensitivity (NCWS), besides being known as allergenic components for baker's asthma. Different approaches for characterization and quantification including proteomics-based methods for wheat ATIs have been documented. In these studies generally the major ATIs have been addressed.

Background: Postoperative epidural adhesion is a frequent cause of failed back surgery syndrome, manifesting with back and leg pain or neurologic deficits. Development of preventive measures for epidural adhesion after laminectomy is critical to improve outcomes of lumbar surgery. We hypothesized that positive effects of topical application of Contractubex (CTX) gel and benzothiazole (BT) individually and in combination could aid in preventing epidural fibrosis in a rat laminectomy model.

Background: Grapes and their products are known to have been used for the treatment of diseases throughout history.

Objective: It was aimed to investigate the effects of Erzincan Cimin grapes on an organism model of N2 wild type and BS913 strains with gonad cancer.

Materials And Methods: The effects of methanol extracts of the skin and seeds of Erzincan Cimin grapes were examined separately on N2 wild type and an effect was determined on lifespan.

Presence of extended spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL) in bacteria is a growing health concern of global significance. The local, regional, national, and international epidemiological studies for extended spectrum beta-lactamases-producing Enterobacteriaceae and their encoding genes in foods are still incomplete. The objective of this study was to determine the occurrence of extended spectrum beta-lactamases-producing Enterobacteriaceae and the characteristics of their encoding genes from a total of 250 samples of various foods of animal-origin (100 raw chicken meat, 100 raw cow milk, and 50 raw cow milk cheese) sold in Turkey.

Unlabelled: In this study, a total of 180 vegetable samples collected from several district bazaars of Istanbul were investigated for the occurrence of Escherichia coli using a culture-based method. The isolates were subjected to real-time PCR detection of Shiga-toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) using primers specific for the Shiga toxin (stx1 and stx2) and intimin (eae) virulence genes.

The domestic cat is the one of the most popular pets throughout the world. A by-product of owning, interacting with, or being in a household with a cat is the transfer of shed fur to clothing or personal objects. As trace evidence, transferred cat fur is a relatively untapped resource for forensic scientists.

The diaspora of the modern cat was traced with microsatellite markers from the presumed site of domestication to distant regions of the world. Genetic data were derived from over 1100 individuals, representing 17 random-bred populations from five continents and 22 breeds. The Mediterranean was reconfirmed to be the probable site of domestication.

Lambs from two Turkish breeds, Kivircik a meat breed and Sakiz a breed used for milk and meat production, were fed a diet containing commercial concentrate and hay in the ratios of either 75:25 or 25:75. The effects on fatty acid composition were studied. After weaning (at about 8 weeks) a total of 40 male lambs (20 Kivircik, 20 Sakiz) were divided into four groups of 10 animals and fed either commercial concentrate or grass hay-based diets.

The effects of dietary zinc on zinc absorption and excretion were evaluated with six 12-week-old beagles. The dogs were fed a commercial dry food later supplemented with 2 and 4mg/kg of body weight per day of either zinc sulphate, zinc acetate or zinc oxide. The concentrations of zinc in the urine and faeces of all treatment groups were increased depending on the type of zinc salts and the dosage in the diet (P < 0.

Ochratoxin A which is degraded to ochratoxin α in the rumen may have negative effects on kidney function. However, the toxicity of ochratoxin α is significantly lower than of ochratoxin A. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of different ruminal parameters such as pH and fermentation on the inactivation of ochratoxin A.
