Article Synopsis
  • The Amsterdam Declaration on Fungal Nomenclature was established during a 2011 symposium to address naming issues in pleomorphic fungi, especially considering the rise of molecular data in classification.
  • It emphasizes creating a unified naming system for fungi, advocating for the priority of the first described name while providing mechanisms for protecting names that may become endangered.
  • The declaration also suggests that contentious naming cases be reviewed by the ICTF and discusses governance issues and the naming of fungi identified only through environmental genetic sequences, proposing future amendments to the Draft BioCode.

In order to determine the relationship between the development of denture related stomatitis (DRS) and the production of phospholipase and proteinase by Candida species, 156 Candida isolates isolated from the individuals in the control group and from the individuals different denture wearers were included in this study. According to the results of the study, C. albicans strains were determined to produce high levels of phospholipase and proteinase.

In this research, in order to determine mean fungus counts, indoor and outdoor air samples were taken in five elementary school buildings located in the city center of Seferihisar, Izmir (45 km from Izmir) within a 1-year period between March and April 2004, and between January and February 2005 representing similar climatic characteristics. Five samples, three from three classes where 5-8, 10-12, and 12-15 age group students attended, one from the corridors, and one from outside the buildings in all the schools, were taken for each period. Within the period of the study, in indoor and outdoor air samples, 7,122 microfungus colonies were counted.

Chitosan-based carriers have important potential applications for the administration of drugs. In the present study, topical gel formulations of terbinafine hydrochloride (T-HCl) were prepared using different types of chitosan at different molecular weight, and the antifungal inhibitory activity was evaluated to suggest an effective formulation for the treatment of fungal infections. The characteristics of gel formulations were determined with viscosity measurements and texture profile analysis.
