Objective: Penetration of intervertebral disc joint during lumbar puncture might be unnoticed during procedure. However, accelerated degeneration of the disc joint is a long-term consequence of inadvertent penetration. In this paper, we aimed to demonstrate and evaluate the risk of disc puncture during standard lumbar puncture.

Safety of Upper Pole Puncture in Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy with the Guidance of Ultrasonography versus Fluoroscopy: A Comparative Study.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to compare the safety of ultrasonography-guided (UG) puncture and fluoroscopy-guided (FG) upper pole access (UPA) in percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL).

Evaluation of nasal airflow resistance of operated unilateral cleft lip and palate surgery patients compared with skeletal class III individuals.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to measure the nasal airflow resistance of operated unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) patients using the anterior rhinomanometry method compared with non-cleft skeletal class III individuals with isolated maxillary hypoplasia serving as the control group.

Material&methods: Sixteen UCLP patients who have undergone lip and palate reconstructions and alveolar cleft grafting but not advanced surgeries as the study group and 16 non-cleft skeletal class III participants as the control group (corresponded for age and sex to the study group) were included in this prospective study. All of the patients had class III occlusion due to isolated maxillary hypoplasia.

Antioxidant and physicochemical properties of cookies containing raw and roasted hemp flour.

Background: There has been a resurrection of interest in traditionally cultivated hemp seeds as an alternative food ingredient source over the last few years. Hemp seeds are an excellent food source in terms of protein, dietary fiber, omega fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. In this way,  hemp flour allows the development of  a product with a high nutritional content for human nutrition.

In this study, the authors described the anatomy, histology, and clinical relevance of the interdomal region, keystone, and scroll complex. The current study examined these areas in 26 fresh cadaver heads.

Revisiting the complex architecture of ALS in Turkey: Expanding genotypes, shared phenotypes, molecular networks, and a public variant database.

The last decade has proven that amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is clinically and genetically heterogeneous, and that the genetic component in sporadic cases might be stronger than expected. This study investigates 1,200 patients to revisit ALS in the ethnically heterogeneous yet inbred Turkish population. Familial ALS (fALS) accounts for 20% of our cases.

Anogenital distance in newborn infants conceived by assisted reproduction and natural conception.

Research Question: Does anogenital distance (AGD) differ in newborn infants conceived through assisted reproduction technology (ART) compared with those conceived naturally?

Design: This case-control study looked at anthropometric and anogenital measurements in 247 male and 200 female newborns born after ART (n = 121) or natural conception (n = 326), within 24 h of birth. Anogenital measurements included distance from the centre of the anus to the anterior clitoris (AGDAC) and to the posterior fourchette (AGDAF) in female infants, and from the centre of the anus to the posterior base of the scrotum (AGDAS) and to the anterior base of the penis (AGDAP) in male infants.

Results: ART mothers were older, more likely to be nulliparous and delivered by Caesarean section at an earlier gestational week.

Sex Differences of Migraine: Results of a Nationwide Home-based Study in Turkey.

Introduction: The prevalence of migraine was found to be more than three-fold higher in women as compared with men, and in addition to differences in prevalence rates, the characteristics and associated features might also differ between the sexes. The aim of this study was to compare sex-specific features of migraine and demographic parameters in a nationwide population-based study in Turkey.

Methods: Among 5323 subjects, a total of 871 patients who were diagnosed as having definite migraine according to the diagnostic criteria of the International Classification of Headache Disorders-III (ICHD-III) were included in our study.

Supplementing oxygen (O ) to transplanted cells via an O generating source such as calcium peroxide (CPO) is an attractive approach to ensure cell viability. Calcium peroxide also produces calcium hydroxide that reduces the viscosity of bioinks, which is a limiting factor for bioprinting.

Selective in vitro and in silico enzymes inhibitory activities of phenolic acids and flavonoids of food plants: Relations with oxidative stress.

In this study, the inhibitory potentials of food originated 34 phenolic acids, and flavonoid compounds were screened against acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase, urease, and tyrosinase enzymes. All compounds included in this study exhibited high antioxidant activity with an ignorable cytotoxic activity. In general, they also showed poor anti-urease and anti-tyrosinase activities.

Effects of flexible ureteroscopy on kidney: A prospective clinical trial.

Objective: To investigate the effects of flexible ureteroscopy (F-URS) on the operated side of a kidney by assessing the renal damage markers, urine neutrophil gelatinase-related lipocalin (NGAL) and serum cystatin-C (Cys-C), and overall kidney function with the measurements of standard serum creatinine and urine albumin and protein levels.

Material And Methods: A total of 30 patients who underwent F-URS for treatment of upper urinary stone disease were prospectively evaluated. Preoperative serum urea, creatinine, and Cys-C levels were noted.

The effect of plasma rich platelet graft on post-operative complications in mid-penile hypospadias.

Hypospadias is one of the most common penile congenital anomalies, which often requires a surgical approach. After the hypospadias is repaired, urethral fistula can occur in around 20% of patients. In this study, we used platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to reduce the urethral fistula and other post-operative complications after hypospadias repair.

A Custom-Made Nostril Retainer for Adult Population.

Nostril retainers are used in cleft lip nose surgery in the post-operative period to maintain alar diameter and resistance against contraction. Various custom made splints were described in the literature to mimic this function when nostril retainers cannot be used for economic or logistic reasons. The authors designed a nostril retainer made by silicone urinary catheter for adult age patients which can be prepared easily.
