Packaging plays an important role in protecting foodstuffs against physicochemical damage and microbial activity, as well as extending shelf life. In recent years, petrochemical compounds that cause environmental pollution and contamination due to their non-biodegradability have been replaced by biocompatible polymer-based films in the food packaging industry. Due to aromatic essential oils (EO), various biological activities, and their potential to replace chemical preservatives in the field of food preservation, Star Anise essential oil, which has properties, such as free radical scavenger, antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral, was used as an additive in this study.

Diabetes is known to cause cognitive impairments through various mechanisms, including oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis. Humanin (HN) has been shown to have protective effects on cognitive impairments induced by factors such as Aβ, muscarinic receptor antagonists, and aging in rodents. However, the mechanisms underlying the protective effects of HN in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus in the context of diabetes are not well understood.

Monoaminergic systems are known to be involved in the pathophysiology of neuropsychiatric disorders and vegetative functions due to their established influence on hypothalamic and subcortical areas. These systems can be modulated by lifestyle factors, especially exercise, which is known to produce several beneficial effects on reproduction, brain health, and mental disorders. The fact that exercise is sensed by the brain shows that muscle-stimulated secretion of myokines allows direct crosstalk between the muscles and the brain.

Purpose: In this study, we aimed to assess the effectiveness of malignancy stratification algorithms of the American College of Radiology (ACR) and European Thyroid Association (ETA) in the delineation of thyroid nodules using a database of nodules that were unequivocally diagnosed by means of histopathological examination and meticulously matched with the imaged nodules.

Methods: A total of 165 patients having 251 thyroid nodules with histopathologically proven definitive diagnoses during a 5-year period were included in this study. All patients had preoperatively undergone ultrasonography (US) examination, and US characteristics of the thyroid nodules were retrospectively analyzed and assigned in compliance with the thyroid imaging reporting and data system categories recommended by the ACR (ACR-TIRADS) and ETA (EU-TIRADS).

Purpose: For the treatment of thyrotoxicosis, alternative treatment modalities may be necessary if anti-thyroid drugs cannot be used due to side effects, inefficiencies, or there is a need to start a rapid action such as thyroid storm. By using therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE), it is possible to effectively and rapidly remove the increased thyroid hormones. We evaluated our results and experience on a rapid, effective, and reliable alternative treatment modality in thyrotoxic patients.

Members of the family Iridoviridae (iridovirids) are large dsDNA viruses that infect both invertebrate and vertebrate ectotherms and whose symptoms range in severity from minor reductions in host fitness to systemic disease and large-scale mortality. Several characteristics have been useful for classifying iridoviruses; however, novel strains are continuously being discovered and, in many cases, reliable classification has been challenging. Further impeding classification, invertebrate iridoviruses (IIVs) can occasionally infect vertebrates; thus, host range is often not a useful criterion for classification.
