Background And Objectives: Crush injury, the most important trauma complication encountered in earthquake victims, occurs as a result of prolonged compression of muscle mass. Crush syndrome, resulting from crush injury, and acute kidney injury (AKI) are the most common causes of in-hospital deaths after earthquakes. The aim of this study is to convey our experience after the devastating Turkey-Syria earthquake and to identify the risk factors of crush syndrome and crush-related AKI.

Ellipsoidal patellar bone tunnel fixation with Toggleloc suspension system for medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction: A 5 years follow-up.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and radiological features of the patella fixation technique using Toggleloc suspension system in a single ellipsoidal blind patellar tunnel during medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction.

Methods: This study included 52 patients (25 men, 27 women) who underwent MPFL reconstruction using a semitendinosus tendon graft. The graft was fixed to the ellipsoidal single blind tunnel opened on the medial side of the patella with an endobutton and was fixed to the femoral tunnel by using bioabsorbable screw.

An application study for the determination of ship-borne noise pollution.

Noise pollution includes undesired sounds that lead to negative physiological and psychological outcomes in individuals. Areas with a unique ergonomic design when compared to other work environments, such as ships, are risky. Identification and limitation or minimization of the impact of noise pollution in ships would directly affect crew health and maximum efficiency of the operation of the systems.

Attitudes towards cancer may affect the cancer prevention behaviors of cancer patients' relatives and their participation in cancer screening. Knowing the factors affecting attitudes will shed light on the education programs to be planned to encourage individuals to gain a positive attitude towards cancer and positive health behaviors in cancer prevention. Determining the behaviors towards cancer prevention and cancer screening, identifying reasons that prevent participation in cancer screening, determining the factors associated with the attitudes of cancer patients' relatives towards cancer, determining the factors affecting their attitudes towards cancer of cancer patients' relatives, can increase the awareness of healthcare professionals and patient relatives on the subject.

Effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on clinical and economic outcomes in patients with deep second-degree burns.

Introduction: Deep second-degree burn injuries are the most challenging situations for the burn surgeon in the treatment of adult cases. While waiting for spontaneous closure increases the risk of hypertrophic scar and keloid, early excision and grafting pose the risk of donor site wound and permanent color differences. Unlike many studies in the literature, the current study was planned in a way to minimize factors other than burn wounds to investigate the effect of adding hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) therapy to conventional treatment in deep second-degree burn wounds.

Comparison of 2-year clinical and radiological outcomes between volar plating and external fixation with additional K-wires for AO Type C distal radius fractures.

Background: Surgical treatment of distal intraarticular radius fractures remains controversial. Our aim was to compare the clinical and radiological outcomes between volar plating (VP) and external fixation (EF) for distal intraarticular radius fractures two years postoperatively.

Objective: The purpose of our study was to evaluate the clinical and radiographic outcomes of cementless modular total hip arthroplasty for the treatment of high hip dislocations with sub-trochanteric transverse shortening osteotomy.

Methods: Sixty-eight hips with a high hip dislocation, were treated using a sub-trochanteric transverse shortening osteotomy and cementless modular total hip arthroplasty, retrospectively reviewed.

Ultrasonography-guided post-pyloric feeding tube insertion in medical intensive care unit patients.

In this study, we investigated placement rate, complication rate and time spent of successful post-pyloric enteral feeding (PPEF) tube insertion procedure guided by ultrasonography (USG). The patients who required enteral nutrition and who admitted to medical intensive care unit (MICU) of Gazi University Hospital were included to this single-center, prospective, cohort study. It was aimed to insert the enteral feeding tube into the proximal duodenum as the post-pyloric area by ultrasonography guidance.

Are pocket sized ultrasound devices sufficient in the evaluation of lung ultrasound patterns and aeration scoring in pulmonary ICU patients?

Lung ultrasound (LUS) is a practical diagnostic tool for several lung pathologies. Pocket sized USG devices (PSUDs) are more affordable, accessible, practical, and learning to use them is easier than standard ultrasound devices (SUDs). Their capability in image quality have been found as comparable with standard USG machines.

The usefulness of subxiphoid view in the evaluation of acceleration time and pulmonary hypertension in ICU patients.

Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PHT) is very frequent in ICUs. Estimation of systolic pulmonary artery pressure (PASP) by using tricuspid regurgitation velocity (TRV) is impossible in 25% of patients. However, it may be possible to estimate PHT in these patients by obtaining subxiphoid imaging of short axis (SX-SAX) and measuring pulmonary artery diameter (PAD) and right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) acceleration time (AT).

Value of prognostic scores in antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) associated vasculitis patients in intensive care unit: a multicenter retrospective cohort study from Turkey.

Background/aim: There is a need for a scoring system for predicting ICU prognosis of patients with ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV), but there are limited data on it in the literature. Therefore, we aimed to determine the scores that can estimate the prognosis of patients with AAV during intensive care follow up.

Materials And Methods: All adult patients admitted to the medical ICUs of 4 reference university hospitals in Turkey due to AAV activation and/or disease/treatment complications in the last 10 years were included in this study.

Purpose: In this prospective observational study, we aimed to investigate the role of the maximum compressed (MC) and uncompressed (UC) thickness of the quadriceps femoris muscle (QFMT) measured by ultrasonography (USG) in the detection of nutritional risk in intensive care patients (ICPs) with different volume status.

Methods: 55 patients were included. Right, left, and total ucQFMT and mcQFMT measurements were obtained by a standard USG device within the first 48 hours after ICU admission.

Validity and reliability of pocket-sized ultrasound devices in measurement of optic nerve sheath diameter in ICU patients.

The measurement of the optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) by ultrasonography (USG) is particularly important for intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring when invasive measurements are not possible or are contraindicated. Standard USG (SUDs) devices can be bulky and may break down the workflow. The validity and reliability of pocket-sized USG devices (PSUDs) compared to SUDs for ONSD measurement has not been investigated, yet.

Survey of contagious caprine pleuropneumonia in goat herds in the Thrace region of Turkey.

Contagious caprine pleuropneumonia (CCPP) was detected for the first time on the European continent in the Thrace region of Turkey in 2002 following outbreaks of an unusually severe respiratory disease in goats. Mycoplasma capricolums ubspecies capripneumoniae (Mccp), the causative agent, was identified in many infected herds throughout the region by serological, bacteriological and molecular biological techniques. However, as no quantitative data on the prevalence and distribution of the disease have been gathered in the intervening years, the extent of infection is unknown.
