is the etiologic agent of invasive aspergillosis, a life- threatening fungal pneumonia that is initiated by the inhalation of conidia (spores) into the lung. If the conidia are not cleared, they secrete large quantities of hydrolytic enzymes and toxins as they grow, resulting in extensive damage to pulmonary tissue. Stromal fibroblasts are central responders to tissue damage in many organs, but their functional response to pulmonary injury caused by has not been explored.

Objective: Despite several surgical options, there has yet to be a consensus on the best treatment for femoral neck fracture (FNF) due to higher complication rates compared to other bone fractures. This study aims to examine the possible consequences and solution suggestions of changing screws during surgery for various reasons in FNF surgical treatment from a biomechanical perspective.

Method: FNF and treatment materials were analyzed biomechanically using a package program based on the finite element method (FEM).

Just like in other medical specialties, medical malpractice claims arise in pathology as well. Although the exact rate of malpractice related to pathology cannot be clearly stated in Turkey, it is known to occur more frequently during the diagnosis stage, as reported worldwide. This study discusses the measures that should be taken to prevent these claims by comparing cases with alleged malpractice in pathology, evaluated by the Council of Forensic Medicine, with the literature.

Introduction: The severity of electrical injuries depends on the voltage, the duration of exposure to current, and the trajectory of the current through the body. The reconstruction for defects caused by electric current is a difficult process.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of the reverse first dorsal metatarsal artery (FDMA) flap in the reconstruction of distal foot injuries caused by electric currents.

Objectives: Several ultrasound (US) -based risk stratification systems (RSS) for managing thyroid nodules have been developed and introduced into clinical practice. However, there are essential differences among these systems. This study aimed to determine and compare the category-based diagnostic performance of four US-based risk stratification systems in the detection of thyroid cancer: ACR-TIRADS, ATA, K-TIRADS, and EU-TIRADS.

Article Synopsis
  • This study assesses surgical residents' understanding of energy devices used in surgery, focusing on their operational principles and associated complications.
  • A 16-question test based on the "Fundamental Use of Surgical Energy" program was administered online, with 108 residents participating and an average score of only 6.5 out of 16.
  • Findings indicate that while overall knowledge is lacking, more experienced residents tend to answer more questions correctly, highlighting the need for improved training in this area.

Cancer, characterized by uncontrolled cell growth and metastasis, poses a significant global health burden, ranking as a leading cause of mortality worldwide. Colorectal cancer (CRC) specifically accounts for a substantial portion of cancer cases, with increasing incidence projected over the coming decades. While conventional treatments exist, they often entail adverse effects and limited efficacy, driving interest in natural remedies like coumarin derivatives due to their diverse biological activities and perceived safety profile.

Coumarin and coumarin-thiosemicarbazone hybrids were synthesized and characterized by various techniques such as FT-IR, H NMR, C NMR, MALDI-TOF-MS spectroscopy, and single crystal X-Ray diffractometer (XRD). The photochemical and photophysical properties of the compounds, such as solvatochromism, solubility, and chemical reactivity, were analyzed using UV-vis spectroscopy in different solvents. Due to the potential biological activities of the synthesized compounds, their binding affinity and mechanisms with calf thymus DNA (ct-DNA) and bovine hemoglobin (BHb) were determined using several useful spectrophotometric and theoretical approaches such as UV-vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy, molecular docking, and density functional theory (DFT).

Background: While radical prostatectomy stands out as one of the most effective curative treatments for prostate cancer, it does come with annoying side effects, such as urinary incontinence (UI). We aimed to investigate the predictability of UI using MRI measurements, along with clinical and disease-related variables.

Methods: We included 191 patients who underwent robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy between July 2020 and October 2022 in the study.

Hazelnut oil cake (HOC) has the potential to be bioactive component source. Therefore, HOC was processed with a solid-state fermentation (SSF) by with two steps optimization: Plackett-Burman and Box-Behnken design. The variables were the initial moisture content (X: 30-50%), incubation temperature (X: 26-37 °C), and time (X: 3-5 days), and the response was total peptide content (TPC).

The immunosuppressive function of regulatory T (Treg) cells is essential for maintaining immune homeostasis. Enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2), a histone H3 lysine 27 (H3K27) methyltransferase, plays a key role in maintaining Treg cell function upon CD28 co-stimulation, and Ezh2 deletion in Treg cells causes autoimmunity. Here, we assess whether increasing H3K27me3 levels, by using an Ezh2 gain-of-function mutation, will improve Treg cell function.

During thyroidectomy, both needle electrodes (NE) and endotracheal tube electrodes (ETE) can be used. Incomplete contact of the endotracheal tube electrode with the vocal cords, endotracheal tube electrode may hinder an optimal outcome and even result in an inability to obtain an electromyography wave while neuromonitoring the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve (EBSLN). There is no study that compares NE and ETE for EBSLN monitoring.

  • The study aimed to determine if patients who underwent percutaneous liver mass biopsy (PLMB) could be safely discharged after a two-hour monitoring period.
  • It involved 375 patients and found that minor complications occurred in 18.93% and major complications in 2.13%, mostly within the first two hours.
  • The conclusion indicated that the two-hour monitoring is sufficient for identifying most complications, suggesting that longer monitoring does not significantly enhance patient care.
