The effect of low dose rocuronium on intraocular pressure in laryngeal mask airway usage.

Background: We have compared the effect of low dose rocuronium on intraocular pressure (IOP) in larygeal mask airway usage during induction of anesthesia using propofol and fentanyl, in a randomized, double-blind study.

Method: We studied 30 patients randomly allocated to one of two groups. Anesthesia was induced with fentanyl 1 mg kg(-1) and propofol 2 mg kg(-1) until loss of eyelash reflex.

Regional block anesthesia in a patient with factor V Leiden mutation and axillary artery occlusion.

Anesthetic management of patients with coagulation disorders presents safety and technical challenges. This case describes a 58-year-old woman with factor V Leiden mutation who required distal saphenous vein harvest and axillo-brachial bypass to treat axillary artery occlusion. The patient underwent surgery with satisfactory anesthesia using infraclavicular brachial plexus block, thoracic paravertebral block, and unilateral subarachnoid block.

Acute otalgia during sleep (live insect in the ear): a case report.

Foreign bodies in the external auditory canal may cause otalgia, and live insects have been reported among the causes. A number of methods have been used to immobilize the live insects. In our manuscript, we describe immobilization of an insect and provision of analgesia using EMLA cream.
