Background/aim: Iron deficiency and lipid metabolism disorders are common health problems. We investigated the relationship between iron deficiency anemia and lipid metabolism in premenopausal women, in whom iron deficiency anemia is not uncommon.

Methods: This prospective cohort study was carried out in 64 premenopausal women (median age of 40 years, ranging from 15 to 52) with iron deficiency anemia and 21 non-anemic control women (median age of 38 years, ranging from 28 to 50).

Objectives: We investigated hip rotation degrees, frequency of intoeing problems, and sitting habits in nursery school children and the relationship between these parameters.

Methods: The study included 1,134 children (612 boys, 522 girls), aged between three to six years, attending 26 nursery schools in the central area of Afyon. First, informed consent was obtained from the parents and a questionnaire was administered about demographic data and sitting habits of the children.

An assessment of initial body size in loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) hatchlings in Turkey.

Eggs, hatchlings, and adult loggerhead turtles, and incubation durations of clutches, were measured on three Turkish beaches (Dalyan, Fethiye and Göksu Delta), and some physical features of nests were compared. These features were not statistically different among the beaches, except for nest depth and distance to the high water mark. There was a positive relationship between hatchling mass and egg size.

A series of 4-arylidenamino-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol derivatives (2a-n) were synthesized from the treatment of 4-amino-4H-1,2,4-triazoles-3-thiol (1) with the respective aldehydes and were evaluated for antituberculosis activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv (ATCC 27294), using the BACTEC 460 radiometric system and BACTEC 12B medium.

Bond strength of adhesives to dentin involving total and self-etch adhesives.

Objective: Currently, the trend in dentin adhesion seems to be shifting from moist bonding systems to self-etching systems and from several application steps to single steps. However, recent studies have indicated that the performance of single-step adhesives was lower than the 2-step self-etch or total etch systems. In the present study, microtensile bond strength of a total etch, 2-step self-etch and single-step self-etch adhesives was comparatively evaluated.

The new 1,2,4-triazole and 1,2,4-triazolo[3,4-b][1,3,4]thiadiazine derivatives were synthesized as novel antimicrobial agents. The reaction of 1H-indol-3-acetic acid with thiocarbohydrazide gave the 4-amino-3-mercapto-5-[(1H-indol-3-yl)methyl]-4H-1,2,4-triazole.

The effect of high-dose aspirin pre-treatment on the incidence of myonecrosis following elective coronary stenting.

Background: Inadequate platelet response to aspirin is associated with increased incidence of peri-procedural myonecrosis. Antiplatelet activity of aspirin can be improved by increasing the dose. High-dose aspirin pre-treatment, therefore, may reduce the incidence of myonecrosis post stenting.

Association of serum levels of IGF-I and IGFBP-1 with renal function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
