Purpose: The aim of this article was to investigate the efficacy of ultrasonography-guided core needle biopsy and prognostic factor analysis of breast cancer to plan overall treatment strategy.
Patients And Methods: A consecutive series of nonpalpable and palpable breast cancers constituted our study group (n= 201 lesions; mean size, 20.4 mm) Mean number of core samples was 3.
Background/aim: Iron deficiency and lipid metabolism disorders are common health problems. We investigated the relationship between iron deficiency anemia and lipid metabolism in premenopausal women, in whom iron deficiency anemia is not uncommon.
Methods: This prospective cohort study was carried out in 64 premenopausal women (median age of 40 years, ranging from 15 to 52) with iron deficiency anemia and 21 non-anemic control women (median age of 38 years, ranging from 28 to 50).
Objective: We examined the endothelial nitric oxide (eNOS) gene Glu298Asp polymorphism to assess its possible association with the extent of coronary collaterals.
Methods: A total of 473 consecutive patients who had high grade coronary stenosis or occlusion were evaluated for the extent of coronary collaterals by using Rentrop classification. Patients with grade 0 or 1 collaterals were identified as having poor collaterals.
The reaction of acetic or propionic acid hydrazides with various aryl/alkyl isothiocyanates gave thiosemicarbazides which furnished the 1,2,4-triazoles by alkali cyclization. The 4-aryl/alkyl-5-(1-phenoxyethyl)-3-[N-(substituted)acetamido]thio-4H-1,2,4-triazole derivatives were synthesized by reacting the triazoles with 2-chloro-N-(substituted)acetamide. The chemical structures of the compounds were elucidated by IR, (1)H-NMR, FAB(+)-MS spectral data and elemental analysis.

Subjects And Methods: All patients were treated with oral iron preparations.
Aim: The goal of this work is to understand the cellular effects of advanced glycation end product (AGE)-modified protein on renal proximal tubule cells.
Background: A major function of the proximal tubule is to reabsorb and process filtered proteins. Diabetes is characterized by increased quantities of tissue and circulating proteins modified by AGEs.
Objectives: We investigated hip rotation degrees, frequency of intoeing problems, and sitting habits in nursery school children and the relationship between these parameters.
Methods: The study included 1,134 children (612 boys, 522 girls), aged between three to six years, attending 26 nursery schools in the central area of Afyon. First, informed consent was obtained from the parents and a questionnaire was administered about demographic data and sitting habits of the children.
Eggs, hatchlings, and adult loggerhead turtles, and incubation durations of clutches, were measured on three Turkish beaches (Dalyan, Fethiye and Göksu Delta), and some physical features of nests were compared. These features were not statistically different among the beaches, except for nest depth and distance to the high water mark. There was a positive relationship between hatchling mass and egg size.

For this purpose, new triazoles were synthesized and evaluated for antituberculosis activity. A series of 4-arylidenamino-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol derivatives (2a-n) were synthesized from the treatment of 4-amino-4H-1,2,4-triazoles-3-thiol (1) with the respective aldehydes and were evaluated for antituberculosis activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv (ATCC 27294), using the BACTEC 460 radiometric system and BACTEC 12B medium.

Purpose: To evaluate in detail the ways and methods of mammography education, to survey currently used mammography devices, and to determine the quality of mammography examinations in Turkey in order to increase the quality of said examinations and to offer guidance to standardization studies in Turkey.
Materials And Methods: This study depended on the analysis of a questionnaire that was completed by volunteering medical centers. The questionnaire was mailed to all institutions in Turkey with a mammography device and which were registered with the Turkish Atomic Energy Commission and individual city health administration databases (n = 456).
The increasing clinical importance of drug-resistant mycobacterial pathogens has lent additional urgency to microbiological research and new antimycobacterial compound development. For this purpose, new thiazolylhydrazone derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for antituberculosis activity. The reaction of thiosemicarbazide with acetophenone derivatives gave 1-(1-arylethylidene)thiosemicarbazide (1).

Methods: Of the 784 invited women, 462 participated in the study (58.9%).
The increasing clinical importance of drug-resistant fungal and bacterial pathogens has lent additional urgency to microbiological research and new antibacterial compound development. For this purpose, new tert-butyl[1-benzyl-2[(4-aryl-2-thiazolyl)hydrazono]ethyl]carbamate derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for antibacterial activity. The reaction of Boc-L-phenylalaninal with thiosemicarbazide gave the thiosemicarbazone which furnished the title compounds by reaction with phenacyl bromides.

However, recent studies have indicated that the performance of single-step adhesives was lower than the 2-step self-etch or total etch systems. In the present study, microtensile bond strength of a total etch, 2-step self-etch and single-step self-etch adhesives was comparatively evaluated.

The new 1,2,4-triazole and 1,2,4-triazolo[3,4-b][1,3,4]thiadiazine derivatives were synthesized as novel antimicrobial agents. The reaction of 1H-indol-3-acetic acid with thiocarbohydrazide gave the 4-amino-3-mercapto-5-[(1H-indol-3-yl)methyl]-4H-1,2,4-triazole.

The aim of the study was to determine bone mineral density changes caused by consumption of cola drinks and the associated factors. Thirty Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups. Groups 1 and 2, consisting of 10 male and 10 female rats, respectively, were provided with as much food, water and cola drinks as they wanted.

Antiplatelet activity of aspirin can be improved by increasing the dose. High-dose aspirin pre-treatment, therefore, may reduce the incidence of myonecrosis post stenting.

We also aimed to establish any relationship that might exist between the serum IGF-I and IGFBP-1 levels with the urinary albumin excretion (UAE), creatinine clearance and urinary N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) excretion (as a marker of renal tubular dysfunction) and other parameters (such as age, duration of diabetes, treatment, etc.) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM).
