In vitro sensitivity of rat esophagus to agonists in different alkaline mediums.

Aim: An in vitro study was performed to determine the in vitro sensitivity of rat esophagi to contracting and relaxing agonists in different alkaline mediums.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-four Wistar rats weighing 200 to 250 g were included in the study. After inducing anesthesia with thiopental sodium (50 mg/kg), the rats were killed, and the distal esophagus (DE) and gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) were removed.

Traumatic injuries are the leading cause of mortality and morbidity during childhood. A retrospective study was performed to evaluate the impact of Pediatric Trauma Score (PTS) on burden of trauma in emergency care. Children admitted to the emergency room were retrospectively evaluated for age, sex, mechanism of injury, physical examination findings, and PTS.

Background/purpose: It has been suggested that whole gut irrigation (WGI), which is a preparation method for large bowel surgery or colonoscopy, increases gastrointestinal motility by creating a gastrocolic reflex. An experimental study was performed to evaluate the effect of different WGI solutions on gastrointestinal smooth muscle activity.

Childhood asymmetric labium majus enlargement: is a conservative approach available?

Unilateral vulva swelling during prepubertal period consists of a wide variety of inflammatory and neoplastic lesions. A group of labial lesions that showed normal radiologic, histopathologic and surgical findings are reported as childhood asymmetric labium majus enlargement. An 11-year-old girl with childhood asymmetric labium majus enlargement is presented to discuss the clinicopathologic features, differential diagnosis, and indications of conservative approach in the treatment of this rare entity.
