The impact of hyperbaric oxygen treatment for cardiovascular implantable electronic devices.

Introduction: The safety of hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBO) in patients with cardiovascular implanted electronic devices (CIED) remains unclear.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of seven CIED patients (median age 79 [73-83] years, five males [71.4%]), including five with pacemakers and two with implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD), who underwent HBO between June 2013 and April 2023.

Chest wall sarcomas account for <20% of all soft tissue sarcomas of which leiomyosarcomas represent only 1-4%. We report a case of thoracic leiomyosarcoma that resembled schwannoma in preoperative image studies. A 79-year-old man presented to our hospital with a chest wall tumor that increased in size over 3 months.

A comparative study of surgical outcomes between anterior cervical discectomy with fusion and selective laminoplasty for cervical spondylotic myelopathy.

Background: Few studies have directly compared anterior and posterior surgical approaches in cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) patients with short-segment disease. A 18-year-old man was referred to our hospital complaining of chest abnormal shadow of the left upper lung field in mass screening chest X-ray. Although his left anterior chest wall swelled, he did not recognize that. [Anaphylaxis Induced by Fibrin Glue During Surgery for Pneumothorax].

We report here our experience with a case of anaphylactic shock caused by fibrin glue. A 51-year-old male underwent a thoracoscopic surgery for refractory pneumothorax under local anesthesia. Bullae were revealed, and subsequently covered with fibrin glue and a polyglycolic acid sheet.

We report the case of a 54-year-old male compressed-air worker with gas bubbles detected by computed tomography (CT). He had complained of strong abdominal pain 30 minutes after decompression after working at a pressure equivalent to 17 meters of sea water for three hours. The initial CT images revealed gas bubbles in the intrahepatic portal vein, pulmonary artery and bilateral femoral vein.

Background: Radiation therapy is performed as an adjuvant therapy when indicated following surgical resection of malignant tumors. However, radiation exposure induces acute or chronic dermatitis, depending on the radiation dose, interval, tissue volume, or irradiated area of the body. The facilitatory effects of hyperbaric oxygen treatment on membrane bone wound healing in a rat calvarial defect model.

We found that Phd2-null mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) produced more lactate than wild-type MEFs, as expected, whereas systemic inactivation of PHD2 in mice did not cause hyperlacticacidemia. This unexpected observation led us to hypothesize that the hypoxic response activated in the liver enhances the Cori cycle, a lactate-glucose carbon recycling system between muscle and liver, and thereby decreases circulating lactate.
