Article Synopsis
  • - Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is a rare and serious heart condition often occurring during or after pregnancy; this study assessed its outcomes in North Africa over a 12-year period from 2010 to 2022.
  • - Out of 27 PPCM patients studied, most presented symptoms like severe dyspnea and had a low average heart function measurement (LVEF of 30%); complications included pulmonary edema (85%) and the need for ECMO support in two patients.
  • - The follow-up revealed that 67% of patients showed recovery in heart function, but the overall mortality rate was 15%, with significant mortality associated with factors like past pregnancies and poor prenatal care.

Single layer graphene (SLG) was synthesized via high-quality chemical vapor deposition (CVD) on high-quality copper and subsequently transferred onto SiO2 and on n-GaAs substrates with varying doping electron concentrations (n = 1016, 1017, 5 × 1017, 1018, and 5 × 1018 cm-3). The n-GaAs substrates were grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The optical properties of the SLG were investigated through photoluminescence (PL) and Raman spectroscopy measurements.

Introduction: Adult-onset asthma and periocular xanthogranuloma (AAPOX) is a rare non-Langerhans cell histiocytic disorder.

Aim: To describe the periocular clinical findings in a patient diagnosed with AAPOX, treated successfully by intralesional corticosteroids.

Case Report: A 40-year-old woman presented with bilateral eyelid swelling and adult-onset asthma.

Introduction And Importance: Quadriceps palsy is a sign of femoral nerve injury. Classically it is a compression of the nerve by a haematoma of the iliopsoas muscle in haemophiliacs and patients on anticoagulants. Could this haematoma form after a trauma in a healthy athlete?

Case Presentation: We report a case of 16-year-old kickboxer with no previous history who had been complaining of the left groin for 3 weeks after being struck in the left iliac fossa.

Background: This cross-sectional study aimed to describe and discuss the epidemiology of mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS) in Tunisia.

Methods: Patients diagnosed with a MPS disorder in two referral laboratories in Tunisia between 1999 and 2021 were included. Diagnosis was based on clinical and radiological features and analysis of urinary glycosaminoglycans, and enzyme assay in some of the patients.

Unlabelled: This study focused on the potential for pentachlorophenol removal by a biological process in secondary treated wastewater (STWW). The proposed process is a combined method of phytoremediation using a native plant, Polypogon maritimus and Lemna minor, and bioaugmentation using a fungus. The bioaugmentation process was performed by a fungal isolate capable of removing PCP, isolated from the compost.

Introduction: Tumor Growth Factor-β (TGF-β) is a multifunctional cytokine that plays a crucial role in various biological processes. TGF-β is also involved in various pathologies including breast cancer (BC). BC is strongly dependent on hormone receptors such as Estrogen receptors (ERa, ERb) and Progesterone Receptor (PR).

Renal vein thrombosis is not a common manifestation in the context of acute pyelonephritis. We report the case of a 29-year-old female diabetic patient that was admitted to our department for an episode of complicated acute pyelonephritis. Initial imaging showed a left lower polar abscess of 27 mm and urine cultures grew community acquired K.

Pelvic leiomyoma in male patients is a very rare occurrence and its association with prostate cancer is a unique clinical situation. This study reports a new case of a 9 cm pelvic Leiomyoma associated with intermediate-risk localized prostate cancer in a 68-year-old patient. The leiomyoma was discovered fortuitously after an MRI was performed in the context of prostate cancer work-up.

Background: Signal transducers and activators of transcription 5a and 6 (STAT5a and STAT6) play a critical role in tumorigenesis of mammary glands. Based on previous studies, the breast cancer is largely dependent on hormone receptors. Consequently, it is very interesting to decipher the relationship between the STAT5a and STAT6 expression and the molecular distribution of estrogen receptors (ERs) and progesterone receptors (PRs) in mammary tumors.

Background: Bacterial resistance is currently a significant global public health problem. Acinetobacter baumannii has been ranked in the list of the World Health Organization as the most critical and priority pathogen for which new antibiotics are urgently needed. In this context, computational methods play a central role in the modern drug discovery process.

pv. (Pss), the causal agent of citrus blast and black pit lesion of lemon fruit, continues to cause serious damage in citrus production in Tunisia. Faced with the rapid emergence of the disease and the inefficiency of conventional control methods, an alternative strategy based on the use of bacteriophages was pursued in this study.

Overall, 180 yeasts and bacteria isolated from the peel of citrus fruits were screened for their in vitro antagonistic activity against and , causative agents of green and blue mold of citrus fruits, respectively. Two yeast and three bacterial isolates were selected for their inhibitory activity on mycelium growth. Based on the phylogenetic analysis of 16S rDNA and ITS rDNA sequences, the yeast isolates were identified as and while the bacterial isolates were identified as , and .

Introduction: Pain management is an integral part of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) following laparoscopic colonic resection. A variety of regional and neuraxial techniques were proposed, but their efficacy is still controversial. This systematic review evaluates published evidence on analgesic techniques and their impact on postoperative analgesia and recovery for laparoscopic colonic surgery patients.

It is widely known that breast cancer cells eventually develop resistance to hormonal drugs and chemotherapies, which often compromise fertility. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the flavonoid, kaempferol-3-O-apiofuranosyl-7-O-rhamnopyranosyl (KARP), on 1) the viability of MCF-7 breast cancer cells and 2) ovarian function in rats. A dose-dependent decrease in MCF-7 cell survival was observed, and the IC50 value was found to be 48 μg/ml.
