Brain microvascular endothelial cells, forming the anatomical site of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), are widely used as in vitro complements to in vivo BBB studies. Among the immortalized cells used as in vitro BBB models, the murine-derived bEnd.3 cells offer culturing consistency and low cost and are well characterized for functional and transport assays, but result in low transendothelial electrical resistance (TEER).

Previous researchers correlated natural stimuli with brain responses to explore brain functional specialization by "reverse correlation" methods, which were based on within-group analysis. However, what external stimuli drove significantly different brain responses in two groups of different subjects were still unknown.

Background: Occupational exposure against physicians and nurses has become one of the most serious public health issues worldwide.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among physicians and nurses from 14 public tertiary hospitals using purposive sampling.
Background: A paucity of studies focused on the genetic association that tuberculosis (TB) patients with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are more likely to be infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) with more potent virulence on anti-TB drug resistance than those without NCDs. The study aimed to document the predominant genotype, determine the association between MTB genotypes and NCD status and drug resistance.
Methods: We conducted a molecular study in 105 TB patients based on a cross-sectional study focused on the comorbid relationship between chronic conditions and TB among 1773 subjects from September 1, 2019 to August 30, 2020 in Guizhou, China.
Objective: To analyze the clinical significance of soluble CD25 (sCD25) levels in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in pediatric hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) with central nervous system (CNS) involvement.
Methods: All patients diagnosed with HLH admitted to Beijing Children's Hospital, Capital Medical University between January 1, 2017 and October 31, 2021 who received a measurement of their HLH-related parameters and CSF sCD25 levels at admission were enrolled in this study.
Results: CSF sCD25 levels in patients with primary HLH were higher than those in patients with Epstein-Barr virus infection-associated HLH, and the median level was 444 pg/ml.
Background: Studies have found that poor sleep quality is negatively associated with subjective wellbeing in older adults, but the mechanisms underlying are unclear. In this study, we aimed to examine the mediating role of negative emotions and the moderating role of perceived social support in the relationship between sleep quality and subjective wellbeing in older adults with multimorbidity.
Methods: A multi-stage random sampling method was used to select a sample of 3,266 older adults aged 60 years and older.

Altered resting-state EEG activity has been repeatedly reported in major depressive disorder (MDD), but no robust biomarkers have been identified until now. The poor consistency of EEG alterations may be due to inconsistent resting conditions; that is, the eyes-open (EO) and eyes-closed (EC) conditions. Here, we explored the effect of the EO and EC conditions on EEG biomarkers for discriminating MDD subjects and healthy control (HC) subjects.

However, the existing class-specific representations are not competitively learned from collaborative representation for achieving more informative pattern discrimination among all the classes. With the purpose of enhancing the power of competitive and discriminant representations among all the classes for favorable classification, we propose a novel CRC method called the class-specific mean vector-based weighted competitive and collaborative representation (CMWCCR).

As a novel oral anti-angiogenesis drug, apatinib, approved by the National Medical Products Administration of China only for advanced gastric cancer, has been increasingly used in off-label treatment across various cancer types in recent years, especially advanced NSCLC. It has shown strong anti-tumor efficacy and acceptable safety.

The survival outcomes and adverse events of BR and R-CHOP are still controversial, thus we did a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess them. We searched articles in Pubmed, Cochrane, Embase and Web of Science comparing BR to R-CHOP in patients with iBCL.

SALL4, a member of the SALL family, is an embryonic stem cell regulator involved in self-renewal and pluripotency. Recently, SALL4 overexpression was found in malignant cancers, including lung cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, breast cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, osteosarcoma, acute myeloid leukemia, ovarian cancer, and glioma. This review updates recent advances of our knowledge of the biology of SALL4 with a focus on its mechanisms and regulatory functions in tumors and human hematopoiesis.

Methods: This prospective study recruited 123 patients with resectable stage I to IIIA NSCLC.
Myocardial reperfusion, the effective therapy for acute myocardial infarction (AMI), commonly leads to myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. The effects and functional mechanisms of LncRNA AZIN1-AS1 on myocardial I/R injury in vivo and vitro are not uncovered. In our present study, we established myocardial I/R injury model of mice and H/R injury model of cardiomyocytes and we discovered AZIN1-AS1 was decreased but miR-6838-5p was increased significantly in myocardial tissues injured by I/R treatment and H9c2 cells injured by hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) treatment.

Methods: Thirty male C57BL6/J mice were randomly assigned to two groups, a control (Con) group and an IH group exposed to hypoxic treatment at atmospheric pressure. The IH group received 10% oxygen pretreatment for 8 hours per day on 14 consecutive days, while the Con group was exposed to normoxia environment and all the other treatment the group received were identical to those given to the IH group, The body mass of the mice was monitored daily during the treatment.

Both resveratrol and myocyte enhancer factor 2A (MEF2A) may protect vascular endothelial cell (VEC) through activating the expression of SIRT1. However, the relationship between resveratrol and MEF2A is unclear. We aimed to investigate the deeper mechanism of resveratrol in protecting vascular endothelial cells and whether MEF2A plays a key role in the protective function of resveratrol.

However, the technology to generate entangled photon states in a quantum photonic chip that are neither probabilistic nor restricted to low efficiency is still missing. Here, we introduce a hybrid quantum photonic chip where waveguide-coupled self-assembled quantum dots (QDs) are heterogeneously integrated onto a piezoelectric actuator.

However, how to recapitulate the complexity and heterogeneity of the native bone-ligament interface including the structural, cellular and mechanical gradients is still challenging. In this work, a bioinspired grid-crimp micropattern fabricated by melt electrospinning writing (MEW) was proposed to mimic the native structure of bone-ligament interface.

The prevalence of HFpEF continues to increase, while the pathogenic mechanisms underlying HFpEF remain largely elusive and evidence-based therapies are still lacking. This study was designed to investigate the metabolic signature of HFpEF and test the potential therapeutic intervention in a mouse model.

The protective effects of biologic TNFIs on AD hallmark pathology (Aβ deposition and tau pathology) have been demonstrated. However, the effects of biologic TNFIs on Aβ-independent tau pathology have not been reported.
