Background: The drastic changes during the COVID-19 pandemic may have a negative impact on the psychological wellbeing of children and adolescents.
Objectives: COPSY is the first national, representative German study to examine mental health and quality of life of children and adolescents during the pandemic. Results are compared with data of the representative longitudinal BELLA study conducted before the pandemic.
Objective: Children and adolescents with a low socioeconomic status (SES) are significantly more often affected by mental health problems than their peers with a high SES. So far, little is known about the association between family's SES and utilization of mental health care. This study examines the mental health care utilization by children and adolescents depending on their SES and symptoms of mental health problems as well as the impact of mental health problems.

Specialized software have been developed to accommodate the unique difficulties in aligning such sequencing reads to a given reference, building on the knowledge acquired from model organisms such as human, or Arabidopsis thaliana. As the field of epigenetics expands its purview to non-model plant species, new challenges arise which bring into question the suitability of previously established tools.

Global food security is threatened by the effects of COVID-19 on international agricultural supply chains and locusts destroying crops and livelihoods in the Horn of Africa and South Asia. We quantify the possible impacts on global supplies and prices of wheat, rice and maize. We show that local production declines have moderate impacts on global prices and supply-but trade restrictions and precautionary purchases by a few key actors could create global food price spikes and severe local food shortages.

This study investigated the effects of the chymase inhibitor fulacimstat on albuminuria in patients with Type II diabetes mellitus and a clinical diagnosis of DKD.
Methods: In this double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial, patients were on the maximum tolerated dose of either an Ang II receptor blocker or an Ang-converting enzyme inhibitor since at least 3 months before the screening visit.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), principally ischemic heart disease (IHD) and stroke, are the leading cause of global mortality and a major contributor to disability. This paper reviews the magnitude of total CVD burden, including 13 underlying causes of cardiovascular death and 9 related risk factors, using estimates from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study 2019. GBD, an ongoing multinational collaboration to provide comparable and consistent estimates of population health over time, used all available population-level data sources on incidence, prevalence, case fatality, mortality, and health risks to produce estimates for 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2019.

Here, we show that the intestinal contents of RYGB-operated compared with sham-operated rats region-dependently confer superior glycemic control to recipient germ-free mice in association with suppression of endotoxemia. Correspondingly, they had direct barrier-stabilizing effects on an intestinal epithelial cell line which, bile-exposed intestinal contents, were partly farnesoid X receptor (FXR)-dependent.

Whereas RS1 decelerates the exocytotic pathway of vesicles containing SGLT1 at low glucose levels between meals, RS1-mediated deceleration is relieved after ingestion of glucose-rich food. Regulation of SGLT1 is mediated by RS1 domain RS1-Reg, in which Gln-Ser-Pro (QSP) is effective.
