Introduction: The fear of falling (FoF) usually increases in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD); however, it can decrease despite repeated falls for unknown reasons. This phenomenon is similar to the findings that the patients with PD show lower emotional responses in the decision-making during the Iowa gambling task (IGT) than of those without PD. The decision-making during the IGT is reportedly correlated with interoceptive accuracy.

There are differences in the responsiveness to differential diagnostic tests for Cushing's disease (CD), corticotroph tumor size, and the somatostatin receptor (SSTR) 5 expression in corticotroph tumors between CD patients. The differences in SSTR5 expression are particularly significant for identifying therapeutic targets for CD. However, prospective predictors of SSTR5 expression remain unclear.

Objective Cortisol-producing adenoma (CPA) is a major subtype of functional adrenal tumors. CPAs are generally treated with adrenalectomy; however, it is difficult to predict the ideal duration of glucocorticoid replacement after resection. This study explored pre-operative factors predictive of glucocorticoid replacement therapy duration after CPA resection.

This study evaluated the mechanical properties of demineralized dentin matrix submitted to different bleaching treatments, as well as the changes in mass and collagen biodegradation brought about by endogenous protease. Dentin collagen matrices were prepared to receive the following treatments (n=12): no bleaching treatment (C-control), 10% carbamide peroxide (CP-Opalescence PF, Ultradent, South Jordan, UT, USA) 10%/8 hours/ day/14 days, and 40% hydrogen peroxide (HP-Opalescence Boost, Ultradent), 40 minutes per session/3 sessions. The dentin matrices were evaluated for elastic modulus and mass before and after treatments and ultimate tensile strength after treatments.

Unique polymer hydrogels with unusual cross-linking networks and self-healing properties have been recently reported. In this study, we fabricated hybrid hydrogels consisting of a chiral supramolecular one-dimensional assembly of glutamide-derived lipids bearing pyridinium head groups (-Py) cross-linked with termini-anionised hydrophilic polyethylene glycol polymers (S-PEG -S). The cationic group-linked -Py forms nanotubular aggregates in water.

Purpose: We previously showed the clinical characteristics of acromegaly with a paradoxical growth hormone (GH) response to oral glucose or thyrotropin-releasing hormone. However, the clinical characteristics of acromegaly with an increased GH response to luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH responders) remain unclear. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the clinical characteristics, especially gonadotroph-related characteristics of LHRH responders in acromegaly.

Purpose: The contents of Rathke's cleft cysts (RCCs) vary from clear and slightly viscous to purulent. Surgical treatment of symptomatic RCCs involves removing the cyst contents, whereas additional cyst-wall opening to prevent reaccumulation is at the surgeon's discretion. The macroscopic findings of the cyst content can reflect the nature of RCCs and would aid in surgical method selection.

Peritoneal tuberculosis (TB) is known to mimic advanced ovarian cancer. In this case report, we describe a unique case of ovarian cancer (endometrioid carcinoma grade 3) at the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage IC1 with pulmonary and peritoneal TB, which was suspected preoperatively to be a coexistence of advanced ovarian cancer and pulmonary TB. A 68-year-old woman presented with a prominent abdominal mass and fever.

Aldosterone secretion in primary aldosteronism (PA) is often regulated by adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) in addition to its autonomous secretion. However, the clinical characteristics and risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular (CCV) events in PA patients with aldosterone responsiveness to ACTH stimulation remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of CCV events in PA patients with high aldosterone responsiveness to ACTH stimulation.

Conventional type 1 dendritic cells (cDC1s) play a crucial role in antitumor immunity through the induction and activation of tumor-specific CD8 cytotoxic T cells (CTLs). The chemokine XCL1 is a major chemotactic factor for cDC1s and its receptor XCR1 is selectively expressed on cDC1s. Here, we investigated the effect of intratumoral delivery of a highly active form of murine XCL1 (mXCL1-V21C/A59C) on cDC1-mediated antitumor immunity using a hydrophilic gel patch.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focused on patients with cardiogenic shock (CS) and evaluated the impact of pulmonary artery catheters (PACs) on their clinical outcomes, specifically in-hospital mortality rates and use of advanced therapies.
  • - Analysis of 1,043 patients revealed that those receiving PACs had a lower in-hospital mortality rate (29.3% vs 36.2%) and were more likely to receive advanced heart failure treatments, such as mechanical circulation support.
  • - The findings suggest that PACs are beneficial in managing CS, particularly for patients in more severe stages (SCAI D and E), though their use was also linked to longer stays in intensive care and hospitals.

The prevalence of adrenal incidentaloma (AI) in imaging studies, including those of the adrenal glands, is estimated to be 1-5%. Essential factors for the proper management of AI include a correct diagnosis, adequate surgical skills, appropriate perioperative management, and sound dialogue with the patient. Aside from the possibility of overdiagnosis, patients with apparent signs or symptoms attributable to adrenal hormone excess have reasonable indications for surgery.
