Background: The objective of this study was to propose a novel classification for lateral polydactyly of the foot that integrates both visual appearance and radiographic findings and to delineate surgical techniques and their outcomes based on this classification.

Methods: This study enrolled 148 feet from 126 patients who underwent initial surgery at our hospital between January 2009 and July 2021. The new classification system was derived from visual appearance according to the Hirase classification and radiological bifurcation level (D: distal or middle phalanx, P: proximal phalanx, and M: metatarsal).

This report presents the case of a 42-year-old Japanese woman with recurrent hormone receptor-positive breast cancer who developed eosinophilic pneumonia (EP) during treatment with abemaciclib combined with endocrine therapy. Seven years after a radical surgery and definite diagnosis of Stage I breast cancer, her cancer recurred with metastases to multiple organs. Initially treated with abemaciclib plus letrozole and goserelin for 3 months, she developed EP, which improved after the discontinuation of anti-cancer treatment and the administration of prednisolone.

Here, we report a case of an 87-year-old female patient with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) treated with methotrexate (MTX) and golimumab who developed severe pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP), also known as pneumonia. The patient presented with chief complaints of dyspnea on exertion, dry cough, and fatigue. A high-resolution chest CT scan revealed diffuse, unevenly distributed ground-glass opacities throughout both lungs.

We evaluated changes in hyperhydration and beverage hydration index (BHI, a composite measure of fluid balance after consuming a test beverage relative to water) during resting, induced by the consumption of beverages containing glycerol and sodium supplemented with fast-absorbing sucrose or slow-absorbing isomaltulose. We present a case of an 86-year-old woman who visited our hospital with a one-year history of exertional dyspnea (modified medical research council dyspnea scale; mMRC grade 2). Despite the absence of any smoking or dust exposure history, multiple cystic lesions were apparent in both lungs on her CT scan. We suspected Sjögren's syndrome-associated lymphocytic interstitial pneumonia (LIP) due to her additional symptoms of dry mouth and eyes.

We report a case of a female patient in her 50s, previously diagnosed with follicular lymphoma (now in complete remission), who was admitted to our hospital due to antibiotic-resistant pneumonia lasting a month. While these models are commonly used to find candidates for evolutionary endpoints and to approximate evolutionary trajectories, a less appreciated property is their potential to expose and clarify the causal structure of evolutionary processes. The mathematical step of differentiation breaks a nonlinear model into additive components which are more intuitive to interpret, and when combined with a proper causal hypothesis, partial derivatives in such models have a causal meaning.

A generalised approach to the study and understanding of adaptive evolution.

Evolutionary theory has made large impacts on our understanding and management of the world, in part because it has been able to incorporate new data and new insights successfully. Nonetheless, there is currently a tension between certain biological phenomena and mainstream evolutionary theory. For example, how does the inheritance of molecular epigenetic changes fit into mainstream evolutionary theory? Is niche construction an evolutionary process? Is local adaptation via habitat choice also adaptive evolution? These examples suggest there is scope (and perhaps even a need) to broaden our views on evolution.
