Background And Objective: The mainstay of management for thalassemia is regular blood transfusions. However, gaps and unmet needs of blood services for thalassemia are still not clearly identified and addressed in Thailand, a country prevalent with thalassemia. What can be a collaborative implementation framework that helps advance practices and policies relating to blood management for thalassemia?

Methods: The first Blood & Beyond Roundtable Discussion was held in July 2022 to gather the current situation, gaps, and unmet needs of blood services for thalassemia from multidisciplinary experts and thalassemic patients.

Evaluation of sleep profile in schizophrenia patients treated with extended-release paliperidone: an open-label prospective study in Southeast Asia.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of 6 months of treatment with paliperidone extended-release (ER) tablets on the sleep profile of patients with schizophrenia.

Methods: A total of 984 patients meeting the (DSM-IV) criteria for schizophrenia who switched their antipsychotic to paliperidone ER were recruited from 61 sites in five countries in Southeast Asia. We recorded patient demographics and assessed sleep quality and daytime drowsiness using visual analog scales.

This study aimed to examine symptoms/demographic characteristics as predictors for psychosocial functioning among individuals with schizophrenia. The Personal and Social Performance (PSP) scale was used to assess psychosocial functioning. Other measures of interest included were the Clinical Global Impression, Severity scale, and the Marder's five-factor model of the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale.

A comparison of multiphasic oral contraceptives containing norgestimate or desogestrel in acne treatment: a randomized trial.

Objective: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness and safety of triphasic combined oral contraceptives (OCs) containing ethinyl estradiol (EE) and norgestimate (NGM) and biphasic combined OCs containing EE and desogestrel (DSG) in the treatment of mild to moderate acne.

Study Design: This was an investigator-blinded, randomized, parallel group trial conducted at 3 centers in Thailand. Female subjects 18-45 years old were assigned to one or the other OCs and evaluated for efficacy and safety parameters at the baseline visit and after 1, 3 and 6 months of treatment.
