Intussusception (IS), an invagination of a portion of the intestine into itself, has recently attracted considerable interest after the withdrawal of a rotavirus vaccine because of reports on increased risk of IS shortly after vaccination. The present study was designed to shed further light on the mechanism of IS formation and its prevention. Intussusception was induced in adult mice by intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS; 8 mg/kg) from salmonella typhimurium.

Study of zinc content in blood serum of the patients with malignant tumors of the digestive systems.

There were been found the abnormal Zn-levels in blood in the cases of the various pathologies, including malignant tumors (MT) of the digestive systems. It has been determined the Zn-levels in the blood serum of 48 patients with MT of the digestive systems (nosologies: 24--MT of stomachs, 10--esophagus, 14--colorectum) and 12 practically healthy persons.

Here, we provide evidence for a detrimental role of tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) in neural death in T cell-induced experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), an animal model of multiple sclerosis (MS). Clinical severity and neuronal apoptosis in brainstem motor areas were substantially reduced upon brain-specific blockade of TRAIL after induction of EAE through adoptive transfer of encephalitogenic T cells. Furthermore, TRAIL-deficient myelin-specific lymphocytes showed reduced encephalitogenicity when transferred to wild-type mice.
