Objectives: To quantify and compare the cost and environmental impact of different techniques for adult tonsillectomy surgery, and to identify target areas for impact reduction.

Methods: Fifteen consecutive adult tonsillectomy surgeries were prospectively randomized to one of three tonsillectomy techniques: cold, monopolar electrocautery, or low-temperature radiofrequency ablation (Coblation). Life cycle assessment was used to comprehensively evaluate the environmental impact of study surgeries.

Objectives: Our health system launched an initiative to regulate venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk assessment and prophylaxis with electronically embedded risk assessment models based on validated clinical prediction rules. Prior to system-wide implementation, usability testing was conducted on the VTE clinical decision support system (CDSS) to assess provider perceptions, facilitate adoption, and usage of the tool. The objective of this study was to conduct usability testing with end users on the CDSS' risk assessment model and prophylaxis ordering components.

The Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) is the basis for primary health care in Afghanistan and should be accessible to all citizens. Most of these health services have been provided by nongovernmental organizations with support from donors. Studies before 2018 found that utilization and quality of services were lower than they should be, partly due to insufficient resources, leading the Ministry of Public Health to conduct a costing study to determine the level of funding required for the BPHS.

Targeting a protein of interest to a subcellular location by linking it to another protein is a commonly used approach to help determine function in many model systems. Such targeting strategies rely on the creation of functional protein-protein fusions followed by microscopic examination if one or both proteins have fluorescent tags. In this paper, using the model filamentous fungus Aspergillus nidulans, we describe methods to link GFP-tagged proteins to other proteins in the cell by fusing the latter with a GFP-Binding Protein (GBP) that has a high affinity for GFP.

Introduction: The storage of harvested stem cells, in standard refrigerators at +4°C, is a simple and inexpensive alternative to cryopreservation for most patients living in countries with limited resources. We present the 10 years' experience of our single center from Oran in Algeria using non-cryopreserved stem cells after conditioning with high dose chemotherapy, in a large group of myeloma and lymphoma patients.

Methods: From May 2009 to December 2019, autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) was carried out in our center, of which 420 with multiple myeloma (MM) and 154 patients with lymphoma.

A new growth factor called Plerixafor (Mozobil®) developed by the pharmaceutical industry (Sanofi-aventis, France), is a chemoreceptor antagonist, CXCR4 type, which disrupts the interaction of SDFI and CXCR4, thereby enhancing the effect of G-CSF mobilization and is especially indicated for mobilization failure. Nuclear pore complex (NPC) proteins (Nups) play multiple roles during mitosis. In this study we expand these roles and reveal that in Aspergillus nidulans, compromising the core Nup84-120 subcomplex of the NPC modifies the mitotic behavior of the nuclear envelope (NE). In wildtype cells, the NE undergoes simultaneous double pinching events to separate daughter nuclei during mitotic exit, whereas in Nup84-120 complex mutants, only one restriction of the NE is observed.
