The aim of this work is to study the effect of adding hydroxy derivatives of chalcones to the basic cryomedium on the ability of sterlet sperm to utilize superoxide and hydrogen peroxide, the intensity of lipid peroxidation of male fish germ cells, and their viability both before cryopreservation and after 3 days of freezing at liquid nitrogen temperature. The ability of phenolic derivatives of chalcones to increase the superoxide dismutase and catalase activities of sterlet sperm and to reduce the intensity of lipid peroxidation has been established. The antioxidant activity of the derivatives exceeds the effect of Trolox, which inhibits the functioning of the enzyme component of the antioxidant protection of fish sperm and promotes lipid peroxidation of fish sperm before cryopreservation.

In recent years, the possibility of increasing the low cryoresistance of sturgeon sperm by using antioxidants in basic cryoprotective media has been studied. The goal of this work was to review the current literature on impact of the cryoprotectors, well-known antioxidants and new multifunctional compounds on the activity indicators and fertilizing capability of sperm, as well as on biomarkers of cryostress. A special attention is given to the radical scavenging activity of studied compounds in relation to the highly reactive oxygen species, to prevent and negate oxidative stress damage of sturgeon sperm.

The regularities of the effect of a complex stress state on the strength of an AlMg5/epoxy adhesive joint are experimentally studied at -50 and +23 °C in tension+shear and compression+shear tests with different normal-to-shear stress ratios. The tests use modified Arcan specimens and Brazil-nut-sandwich specimens, with the lateral faces of the adhesive layer having a shape of a mushroom-like "ridge" aimed at reducing stress concentration at the specimen edges. An original computational model of a selected microvolume including the interface together with the adjacent substrate and adhesive layers is used to process the experimental results.

Natural or synthetic antioxidants with biomimetic fragments protect the functional and structural integrity of biological molecules at a minimum concentration, and may be used as potential chemotherapeutic agents. This paper is devoted to in silico and in vitro evaluation of the antioxidant and cytotoxic properties of synthetic analogues of natural compounds-aromatic oligosulfides. Here we report on the development and investigation of a novel multiplex assay model based on polymer microspheres (PMS) encoded with ternary AIS/ZnS quantum dots (QDs). The system was prepared via layer-by-layer deposition technique. Our studies of Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) between the QD-encoded microspheres and two different cyanine dyes have demonstrated that the QD photoluminescence (PL) quenching steadily increases with a decrease in the QD-dye distance.

Over recent years, quantum dots (QDs) based on ternary metal dichalcogenides have attracted a lot of attention due to their unique properties and a range of potential applications. Here, we review the latest studies on the optical properties of AgInS/ZnS QDs with emphasis on their theoretical modeling, and present our investigations of electronic transitions invisible in unstructured absorption spectra of AgInS/ZnS QDs. The analysis of the absorption, photoluminescence excitation (PLE), and magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectra of hydrophobic and hydrophilic AgInS/ZnS QDs of different sizes enables us to determine positions of electron transitions in these QDs.

Aim: To evaluate the rationale for different approaches to preventive chronic migraine (CM) treatment by comparing clinical outcomes and financial burden of the disease in the real-world practice.

Material And Methods: Sixty-six patients with CM were enrolled at the Alexander Vein Headache Clinic (60 women and 6 men, aged 28-51). All patients were divided into 3 groups: group 1 (n=22) received oral preventative treatment with topiramate, up to 100 mg daily, for three months; group 2 (n=20) received 12 acupuncture sessions (3 sessions a week); group 3 (n=24) received 155-195 units of botulinum toxin type A (botox, BTA).
