Background: In French Guiana, restrictions to control the spread of SARS-CoV-2 were put in place between March 2020 and March 2022. In vulnerable urban neighborhoods, during this period, requests for food assistance increased and fear of hunger overtook fear of being affected by COVID-19.

Objective: The objective of this survey was to describe food security during the COVID-19 pandemic in French Guiana and to study the relationship between the socioeconomic conditions of the study households and household hunger.

Assessing heavy metal contamination and ecological risk of urban topsoils in Tarkwa, Ghana.

This study aimed to assess the spatial distribution, contamination levels, pollution degree and ecological risks of eight heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Co, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn) in topsoils of UMaT, Brahabobom, A'koon, Boboobo and Bogoso Junction (areas in Tarkwa, a mining town in Ghana). Eighty soil samples were collected, and metal concentrations were determined using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). The results revealed that Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn concentrations exceeded the WHO/FAO (2001) standard in some areas.

About the need to address pediatric health inequalities in French Guiana : a scoping review.

Introduction: French Guiana is a French overseas territory in South America, marked by poverty and inequalities. Access to different services, including healthcare, is unequal depending on where people live. Several studies showed that among adults, the most precarious individuals had greater incidences of chronic and infectious diseases.

Training of pediatricians in infectious diseases in France: survey among pediatricians enrolled in the French infectious diseases training program: Training of pediatricians in infectious diseases in France.

The French infectious diseases (ID) program was accessible to all medical trainees enrolled in postgraduate training for other specialties until 2017, when it became an independent specialty. Therefore, the national ID training is no longer accessible to pediatricians, and a specific program for pediatric ID (PID) is under development. We conducted a survey among French pediatric trainees enrolled in the former ID training to assess their satisfaction and describe the barriers they may have faced during the training.

Unilateral diplopia and ptosis in a child with COVID-19 revealing third cranial nerve palsy.

We report the case of a 10-year-old boy with acute-onset diplopia and ptosis in the right eye. CR was positive for SARS-CoV-2. The patient was managed successfully with corticosteroids.
