This review aims to highlight the relative importance of cardiovascular disease (CVD) lifestyle-associated risk factors among individuals with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and examine the effectiveness of lifestyle interventions to improve these CVD risk factors. Adults with IBD are at higher risk of CVD due to systemic and gut inflammation. Besides that, tobacco smoking, dyslipidaemia, hypertension, obesity, physical inactivity, and poor diet can also increase CVD risk.

Despite notable advances in utilising PARP inhibitor monotherapy, many cancers are not PARP inhibitor-sensitive or develop treatment resistance. In this work, we show that the two structurally-related sesquiterpene lactones, a 2-bromobenzyloxy derivative of dehydrosantonin (BdS) and alantolactone (ATL) sensitise p53 wildtype, homologous recombination-proficient cancer cells to low-dose treatment with the PARP inhibitor, olaparib. Exposure to combination treatments of olaparib with BdS or ATL induces cell-cycle changes, chromosomal instability, as well as considerable increases in nuclear area.

MIIND is a software platform for easily and efficiently simulating the behaviour of interacting populations of point neurons governed by any 1D or 2D dynamical system. The simulator is entirely agnostic to the underlying neuron model of each population and provides an intuitive method for controlling the amount of noise which can significantly affect the overall behaviour. A network of populations can be set up quickly and easily using MIIND's XML-style simulation file format describing simulation parameters such as how populations interact, transmission delays, post-synaptic potentials, and what output to record.

Background: Intermittent fasting (IF) and Paleolithic (Paleo) diets produce weight loss in controlled trials, but minimal evidence exists regarding long-term efficacy under free-living conditions without intense dietetic support.

Objectives: This exploratory, observational analysis examined adherence, dietary intake, weight loss, and metabolic outcomes in overweight adults who could choose to follow Mediterranean, IF, or Paleo diets, and standard exercise or high-intensity interval training (HIIT) programs, as part of a 12-mo randomized controlled trial investigating how different monitoring strategies influenced weight loss (control, daily self-weighing, hunger training, diet/exercise app, brief support).

Methods: A total of 250 overweight [BMI (in kg/m2) ≥27] healthy adults attended an individualized dietary education session (30 min) relevant to their self-selected diet.

Background: Fatigue is a symptom commonly reported by patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Treating any underlying inflammation in active disease improves the health outcomes and decreases fatigue, but fatigue still persists in remission, negatively affecting patients' quality of life and posing a challenge for the treating physician. Objectives: To assess the effect of using a treatment escalation/limitation plan (TELP) on the frequency of harms in 300 patients who died following admission to hospital.

Design: A retrospective case note review of 300 unselected, consecutive deaths comprising: (1) patients with a TELP in addition to a do-not-attempt cardiopulmonary resuscitation order (DNACPR); (2) those with DNACPR only; and (3) those with neither. Patient deaths were classified retrospectively as 'expected' or 'unexpected' using the Gold Standard Framework Prognostic Indicator Guidance.
