Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has a poor prognosis, with a 5-year overall survival rate of 10%. In November 2018, NCCN recommended that all patients with PDAC receive genetic counseling (GC) and germline testing regardless of family history. We hypothesized that patients with PDAC were more likely to be referred for testing after this change to the guidelines, regardless of presumed predictive factors, and that compliance would be further improved following the implementation of a hereditary cancer clinic (HCC).

Late detection and specialist referral result in poor oral cancer outcomes globally. High-risk LRMU populations usually do not have access to oral medicine specialists, a specialty of dentistry, whose expertise includes the identification, treatment, and management of oral cancers. To overcome this access barrier, there is an urgent need for novel, low-cost tele-health approaches to expand specialist access to low-resource, remote and underserved individuals.

We sought to compare the effectiveness and efficiency of the superpulse thulium fiber laser (sTFL to the holmium: yttrium-aluminum-garnet [Ho:YAG] laser for ureteroscopic "dusting" of implanted renal stones in an porcine model. Twenty-four porcine kidneys (12 juvenile female Yorkshire pigs) were randomized to Ho:YAG or sTFL treatment groups. Canine calcium oxalate stones were scanned with computed tomography to calculate stone volume and stone density; the stones were randomized and implanted into each renal pelvis via an open pyelotomy.

Introduction: The role of renal biopsy prior to surgical intervention for a renal mass remains controversial despite the fact that for all other urological organs except the testicle, biopsy inevitably precedes treatment as is true for all other specialties dealing with solid masses (e.g. thyroid, breast, colon, liver, etc.

Objective: To determine a) if surgical skills among urology resident applicants could be reliably assessed via crowdsourcing and b) to what extent surgical skills testing impacts resident selection.

Design: Interviewees completed the following surgical skills tasks during their interview day: open knot tying (OKT), laparoscopic peg transfer (LPT), and robotic suturing (RS). Urology faculty and crowd-workers evaluated each applicant's video-recorded performance using validated scoring and were assessed for agreement using Cronbach's alpha.

Background: There is a critical need to identify patient characteristics associated with long-term ovarian cancer survival.

Methods: Quality of life (QOL), measured by the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Ovarian-Trial Outcome Index (FACT-O-TOI), including physical, functional, and ovarian-specific subscales, was compared between long-term survivors (LTS) (8+ years) and short-term survivors (STS) (<5 years) of GOG 218 at baseline; before cycles 4, 7, 13, 21; and 6 months post-treatment using linear and longitudinal mixed models adjusted for covariates. Adverse events (AEs) were compared between survivor groups at each assessment using generalized linear models.

Background: Sleep disturbances are associated with numerous mood disorders. Similarly, anxiety and depression are associated with modulation of the psychoneuroimmune (PNI) axis. This study hypothesized that changes in both monitored and self-reported measures of sleep would relate to changes in circulating cytokine levels in an emotionally distressed population of cervical cancer survivors.

The purpose of this study is twofold: (1) to determine the feasibility of optical coherence tomography (OCT) to differentiate normal and diseased tissue of the neck region intraoperatively and (2) to evaluate how accurately a cohort of test subjects can identify various tissue types when shown a sample set of OCT images. In this in vivo, prospective, single institutional study, an OCT imaging system (Niris, Imalux, Cleveland, OH) was used to image parathyroid, thyroid, lymph node, and fat tissue in 76 patients during neck surgery. Biopsies were performed for comparison of OCT images with histology in select cases (n = 20).

Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) affects 1/15,000-1/30,000 live births and is characterized by lack of expression of paternally inherited genes on 15q11.2-15q13 caused by paternal deletions, maternal uniparental disomy (UPD), or imprinting defects. Affected individuals have distinct physical features, and growth hormone (GH) deficiency occurs in some individuals with PWS.

Subglottic stenosis (SGS) is a challenging disease to diagnose in neonates. Long-range optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an optical imaging modality that has been described to image the subglottis in intubated neonates. A major challenge associated with OCT imaging is the lack of an automated method for image analysis and micrometry of large volumes of data that are acquired with each airway scan (1 to 2 Gb).
