Parkinson's disease (PD) is a gradual deterioration of dopaminergic neurons, leading to motor impairments. Social isolation (SI), a recognized stressor, has recently gained attention as a potential influencing factor in the progress of neurodegenerative illnesses. We aimed to investigate the intricate relationship between SI and PD progression, both independently and in the presence of manganese chloride (MnCl), while evaluating the punicalagin (PUN) therapeutic effects, a natural compound established for its cytoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic activities.

Background: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a serious complication that begins with albuminuria and often leads to a rapid progressive decline in renal function. Niclosamide is a potent inhibitor of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, which controls the expression of multiple genes of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), which in turn is influences the progression of DKD. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of niclosamide as adjuvant therapy on DKD.

FeCrAl fibers, at high temperatures, form a protective oxide-scale layer dominated by aluminum oxide on the surface to prevent further oxidation of the base metal alloy. This study investigates the effects of heat treatment on the microstructure formation of the oxide-scale layer on small-diameter FeCrAl fibers, 12 and 17 µm, produced using a bundle drawing process. The morphology examination and chemical analyses of the small-diameter fibers exhibit the microstructure and chemical compositions of the surface and cross-section areas, revealing a distinctive interface layer with a high aluminum concentration between the base metal and the oxide-scale layer.

Because COVID-19 patients are vulnerable to prescribing errors (PEs) and adverse drug events, designing and implementing a new approach to prevent prescribing errors (PEs) involving COVID-19 patients has become a priority in pharmacotherapy research. To investigate whether using WhatsApp to deliver prescribing error (PE)-related clinical scenarios to community pharmacists could enhance their ability to detect PEs and conduct successful pharmaceutical interventions (PIs). In this study, 110 community pharmacies were recruited from different regions across Jordan and equally allocated to 2 groups.

Background: Although telemedicine services have been adopted on a large scale in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, a little is known about the public experience.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate consumers' patterns, nature, and predictors of telemedicine utilization and consumers' attitude toward this technology.

Methods: A quantitative, self-administered questionnaire was developed, validated, and delivered randomly to adults living across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) between January 2021 and January 2022.

Background: Although pharmacists are trusted and easily accessible by the public, their role in changing health behaviours related to breast cancer has been rarely investigated.

Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of pharmacist-based coaching in improving BC-related health behaviors and knowledge in females, and to measure the comfort level toward this program.

Methods: This was a randomized controlled study carried out in community pharmacies in Egypt.

Neostigmine has been found to improve survival in animal models of sepsis. However, its feasibility, efficacy, and safety in patients with sepsis or septic shock have not been investigated. This parallel randomized controlled double-blinded design aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of neostigmine as an adjunctive therapy in patients with sepsis or septic shock.

This study investigates the effects of Multistage Heat Treatment (MSHT) on the development of an oxide-scale layer on the surface of FeCrAl sintered-metal-fibers. The oxide-scale layer was developed using an MSHT cycle at 930 °C for 1 h, followed by 960 °C for 1 h, and finally at 990 °C for 2 h. In this study, three samples were considered: Sample 1 was kept without thermal oxidation, while Samples 2 and 3 were exposed to one and eighteen MSHT cycles.

Introduction: Remote pharmacist interventions have achieved much more attention during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, since they reduce the risk of transmission and can potentially increase the access of vulnerable populations, such as patients with COVID-19, to pharmaceutical care. This study aimed to examine differences in rates and types of pharmacist interventions related to COVID-19 and medication dispensing errors (MDEs) across community pharmacies with and without telepharmacy services.

Methods: This was a prospective, disguised, observational study conducted over four months (from March 2020 to July 2020) in 52 community pharmacies (26 with and 26 without telepharmacy) across all seven states of the United Arab Emirates using proportionate random sampling.

Anti-glaucoma eye drop treatment often induces dry eyes and can lead to poor medication adherence. This study aimed to investigate the effects of 3% diquafosol sodium eye drops on tear function and the ocular surface epithelium in mice after treatment with anti-glaucoma eye drops. The mice were divided into four groups: group 1, control group; group 2, anti-glaucoma eye drop; group 3, anti-glaucoma eye drops followed by a secretagogue eye drop (3% diquafosol); and group 4, simultaneous anti-glaucoma and secretagogue eye drop.

This paper presents an exergy analysis to evaluate the performance of a continuous directional solvent extraction (DSE) desalination process using octanoic acid. The flow of exergy was calculated for each thermodynamic state and balanced for different components of the system to quantify the inefficiencies in the process. A parametric study was performed to evaluate the impact of three critical design variables on exergy consumption.

Purpose: A healthy conjunctiva secreting mucins is essential for maintaining the integrity of the ocular surface epithelium. We used Cu, Zn-superoxide dismutase 1-deficient mice (Sod1-/- mice) and investigated the effect of oxidative stress on the tear function, conjunctival phenotype, and ocular surface mucin expression.

Methods: Fifty-week-old C57/B6 wild-type (WT) and Sod1-/- mice were used for evaluations of the tear film breakup time and periodic acid Schiff staining of the conjunctival specimens to detect goblet cell densities in the conjunctiva.
