The beauty or ugliness of a face is affected by factors such as the resolution of the face image presented on the screen and its exposure duration. The present study investigated the effects of image resolution and exposure duration on the beauty and ugliness evaluations of face images processed with down-sampling and Gaussian blurring. We prepared two types of face images with these blur processing treatments and conducted two experiments to evaluate beauty and ugliness perceptions at various exposure durations.

Degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis (DLS) is a degenerative condition that causes leg pain, numbness, and gait disturbances. Despite surgical treatment, reducing numbness is more challenging than reducing pain, and there is currently no established effective intervention method. Dysesthesia-matched transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (DM-TENS) is a novel technique that adjusts TENS settings to match the sensation of numbness, potentially improving it.

Marphysa sp. E (Annelida, Eunicidae), inhabiting the Yoro tidal flat (inner part of Tokyo Bay, Japan), ingests reduced mud comprising black and high viscosity sediments that contain high levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs); these PAHs are excreted within the fecal pellets. PAH concentration in the fecal pellets rapidly decrease to half its quantity 2 h after its excretion.

For the direct alkaline oxidation of rice husk lignin, we developed a copper foam-based heterogeneous catalyst that offers advantages in its recovery after the reaction mixture. The depolymerized products were utilized for muconate production by an engineered Pseudomonas sp. NGC7-based strain.

Reversible Solubility Switching of a Polymer Triggered by Visible-Light Responsive Azobenzene Photochromism with Negligible Thermal Relaxation.

This study reports the reversible solubility switching of a polymer triggered by non-phototoxic visible light. A photochromic polymerizable azobenzene monomer with four methoxy groups at the ortho-position (mAzoA) was synthesized, exhibiting reversible photoisomerization between trans- and cis-states using green (546 nm) and blue light (436 nm). Free radical copolymerization of hydrophilic dimethylacrylamide (DMAAm) with mAzoA produced a light-responsive random copolymer (P(mAzoA-r-DMAAm)) that shows a reversible photochromic reaction to visible light.

Sensitivity, robustness, and reproducibility of U-shaped delamination test for evaluation of candidate ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene materials for joint replacements.

The delamination of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) in artificial joints is a major cause limiting the long-term clinical results of arthroplasty. However, the conventional test method using simple reciprocation to evaluate the delamination resistance of UHMWPE materials has insufficient detection sensitivity. To reproduce delamination, the unconformity contact must be maintained throughout the test so that the maximum stress is generated below the surface.

[Associations between Maternal Postpartum Depression and Psychosocial Factors Including Marital Relationship and Social Support].

Objectives: We aimed to investigate the psychosocial factors for postpartum depression as indicated by a high score of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), including marital relationship and social support. Relevant factors for antenatal depression were also analyzed.

Methods: Thirty-five wife-and-husband pairs who visited University Hospital A for the wife's antenatal health check-up participated in a questionnaire survey using the Japanese version of the EPDS.

The patient was a 68-year-old male. Pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD)for papillary carcinoma was performed. Computed tomography(CT)3 months after surgery revealed the migration of a lost Pit-stent into the bile duct.

[Patient with Monomorphic Epitheliotropic Intestinal T-Cell Lymphoma with Small Intestinal Perforation Development during Chemotherapy].

Monomorphic epitheliotropic intestinal T-cell lymphoma(MEITL)is classified under type Ⅱ enteropathy-associated T-cell lymphoma(EATL). It is a rare disease with a low incidence rate. This study reports a case of a patient with MEITL who developed small intestinal perforation during chemotherapy.

[A Case of Small Intestinal GIST Diagnosed by Intussusception].

The patient was a 34-year-old female. She consulted our hospital with epigastric pain. Abdominal computed tomography (CT)revealed a small intestinal tumor, measuring 30 mm in diameter, with contrast effects.

Cholecystectomy in a patient with paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria undergoing ravulizumab maintenance treatment.

A 47-year-old male with paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria (PNH) controlled with routine ravulizumab administration suffered a massive haemolytic crisis due to choledocholithiasis. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy was performed 6 weeks after a regular ravulizumab infusion. After surgery, the patient presented with anaemia without marked elevation in lactate dehydrogenase and required two blood transfusions.

Five-Year Impacts of Antithrombotic Therapy Based on 10-Year Clinical Outcomes of Cypher™ Stent Implantation.

Introduction: Few researchers have investigated the optimal long-term antithrombotic therapy regimen, especially after first-generation drug-eluting stent (DES) use. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of mid-term antithrombotic therapy on long-term outcomes in patients treated with the first sirolimus-eluting coronary stent (Cypher™).

Methods: Between 2004 and 2009, 1021 patients underwent Cypher™ implantation at our institute; among them, 567 patients had available data on antithrombotic therapy at year 5.

Despite efforts to accelerate the supply of COVID-19 vaccines worldwide, the global pandemic has continued. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test is currently considered the gold standard for the diagnosis of COVID-19.

Validation of Urinary Charged Metabolite Profiles in Colorectal Cancer Using Capillary Electrophoresis-Mass Spectrometry.

This study aimed to validate and reanalyze urinary biomarkers for detecting colorectal cancers (CRCs). We previously conducted urinary metabolomic analyses using capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry and found a significant difference in various metabolites, especially polyamines, between patients with CRC and healthy controls (HC). We analyzed additional samples and confirmed consistency between the newly and previously analyzed data.

[An Early Gastric Cancer with Sarcoid Reactions of the Regional Lymph Nodes].

The patient was a 73-year-old male who was referred to our hospital for detailed examination because computed tomography(CT)revealed lymph node swelling. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a 0-Ⅱc lesion in the greater curvature of the middle gastric body. The periphery of the lesion site was not reached using endoscopy.

l-amino acid oxidases (LAOs) catalyze the oxidative deamination of l-amino acid and generate α-keto acid, ammonia, and hydrogen peroxide as byproducts. LAOs showed the variety of bioactivity by the resulting hydrogen peroxide. The serum of the red-spotted grouper Epinephelus akaara contains an LAO (Ea-LAO) with the potential to kill bacterial pathogens Aeromonas salmonicida and Vibrio anguillarum via hydrogen peroxide.

Background: Studies suggest that fragmented QRS (fQRS) can predict arrhythmic events in various cardiac diseases. However, the association between fQRS recordings on intracardiac electrogram (EGM) and ventricular arrhythmic events remains unknown.

Methods: We enrolled 51 patients (age, 62 ± 12 years; 40 men) with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) and structural heart disease and evaluated surface electrocardiogram (ECG) and EGM measurement of fQRS and the association between fQRS and arrhythmic events.

Incidence of outflow tract ventricular tachycardia long after surgical aortic valve replacement.

Background: The peri-outflow tract region could be the origin of ventricular tachycardia (VT) after aortic valve replacement (AVR).
