Background: Regional gray matter volume (GMV) differences between individuals with mental disorders and comparison participants may be confounded by co-occurring disorders. To disentangle disorder-specific GMV correlates, we conducted a large-scale multidisorder meta-analysis using a novel approach that explicitly models co-occurring disorders.

Methods: We systematically reviewed voxel-based morphometry studies indexed in PubMed and Scopus up to January 2023 that compared adults with major mental disorders (anorexia nervosa, schizophrenia spectrum, anxiety, bipolar, major depressive, obsessive-compulsive, and posttraumatic stress disorders plus attention-deficit/hyperactivity, autism spectrum, and borderline personality disorders) with comparison participants.

Multivariate techniques better fit the anatomy of complex neuropsychiatric disorders which are characterized not by alterations in a single region, but rather by variations across distributed brain networks. Here, we used principal component analysis (PCA) to identify patterns of covariance across brain regions and relate them to clinical and demographic variables in a large generalizable dataset of individuals with bipolar disorders and controls. We then compared performance of PCA and clustering on identical sample to identify which methodology was better in capturing links between brain and clinical measures.

Background: Dynamic functional connectivity (dFC) alterations have been reported in patients with adult-onset and chronic psychosis. We sought to examine whether such abnormalities were also observed in patients with first episode, adolescent-onset psychosis (AOP), in order to rule out potential effects of chronicity and protracted antipsychotic treatment exposure. AOP has been suggested to have less diagnostic specificity compared to psychosis with onset in adulthood and occurs during a period of neurodevelopmental changes in brain functional connections.

Methodology/principal Findings: It was based on a review of the scientific literature and data reported by the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) and the Ministries of Health, including hospital discharges in some countries. We print a tunable photopolymer (photopolymer dispersed liquid crystal -PDLC), using the laser-induced direct transfer technique without absorber layer, which was a challenge for this technique given the low absorption and high viscosity of PDLC, and which had not been achieved so far to our knowledge. This makes the LIFT printing process faster and cleaner and achieves a high-quality printed droplet (aspheric profile and low roughness). A femtosecond laser was needed to reach sufficiently peak energies to induce nonlinear absorption and eject the polymer onto a substrate.

This study investigated the efficacy of high-volume spraying with the adulticide α-cypermethrin alone and in combination with the larvicide diflubenzuron on the density of sand flies in gardens of three detached households in periurban areas in southeast Spain. Treatments were applied four times between June and August 2016, and four nearby sites, two households and two non-urbanized sites, were untreated controls. The number of sand flies collected between May and October 2016 using sticky interception and light attraction traps, was 4446 specimens.

The development of a circular economy is a key target to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and create more sustainable processes. Concerning hydrogen as an energy vector, the use of liquid organic hydrogen carriers is a promising strategy, but most of them present limitations for hydrogen release, such as harsh reaction conditions, poor recyclability, and low-value byproducts. Herein, we present a novel sustainable methodology to produce value-added silicon precursors and concomitant hydrogen via dehydrogenative coupling by using an air- and water-stable cobalt-based catalyst synthesized from cheap and commercially available starting materials.

We present a case of ocular involvement in the context of a varicella zoster virus primary infection, in a 30-year-old man with type 1 diabetes. The ophthalmological examination revealed unilateral anterior uveitis resistant to topical treatment, which was complicated by association of vitritis and onset of retinal vasculitis diagnosed by angiography fluorescein. Food intake and body weight are tightly regulated by neurons within specific brain regions, including the brainstem, where acute activation of dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN) glutamatergic neurons expressing the glutamate transporter Vglut3 (DRN) drive a robust suppression of food intake and enhance locomotion. Activating Vglut3 neurons in DRN suppresses food intake and increases locomotion, suggesting that modulating the activity of these neurons might alter body weight. Here, we show that DRN neurons project to the lateral hypothalamus (LHA), a canonical feeding center that also reduces food intake.

We report the first examples of the use of a new class of ligands (NOBINAc) for performing asymmetric C-H activations using palladium catalysts. These ligands combine the axial chirality of binaphthyl scaffolds with the bifunctional and bidentate coordination properties of mono-N-protected amino acids (MPAAs), which are well-known to favor Pd-promoted C-H activations via concerted metalation-deprotonation mechanisms. We demonstrate that our new ligands enable substantially higher enantioselectivities than MPAAs in the assembly of 2-benzazepines through formal (5 + 2) cycloadditions between homobenzyltriflamides or -methylbenzyltriflamides and allenes.
