Background: Lysinuric protein intolerance (LPI) is a metabolic disorder that leads to dysfunctional intestinal absorption and kidney clearance of cationic amino acids. Chronic kidney disease develops in many LPI patients and leads to end-stage kidney disease in at least 10% of patients. Since data on kidney transplants in LPI patients are limited, we analysed the outcomes of LPI patients after transplantation in Finland.

Bicyclic Inhibitors of Branched-Chain α-Keto Acid Dehydrogenase Kinase (BDK) with In Vivo Activity.

Elevated levels of the branched chain α-amino acids valine, leucine, and isoleucine are associated with heart disease and metabolic disorders. The kinase BDK, also known as branched-chain ketoacid dehydrogenase kinase (BCKDK), is a negative regulator of branched-chain α-amino acid metabolism through deactivation of BCKDC, the branched-chain α-ketoacid dehydrogenase complex. Inhibitors of BDK increase the activity of BCKDC and could be useful therapeutic leads for cardiometabolic diseases.

[The challenge of healthy aging: Gaps between the needs of older adults and implemented policies in Argentina].

Background And Objectives: While the concept of healthy aging tends to be homogenized, differential characteristics are observed among regions and even within the same country. There are policies aimed at promoting healthy aging; however, it is essential to understand the needs of the population so that these policies can be effective. The objective of this project was to identify gaps between the needs of individuals over 60 years old to achieve healthy aging and the policies implemented in Argentina to support this purpose.

Thirty Years of Midwifery Education in the Rural and Diverse State of New Mexico.

The purpose of this article is to discuss the evolution of the University of New Mexico (UNM) Nurse-Midwifery Education Program, its impact on New Mexico communities, and the vision moving forward for the program in a rural and culturally diverse state. New Mexico has a rich history of community-based midwifery and the UNM Nurse-Midwifery Education Program, founded in 1991, is rooted in this tradition. Graduates are prepared to practice in rural and underserved communities, advance birth equity, and decrease perinatal health disparities.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of pre-pregnancy obesity on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in pregnant women. A prospective cohort study was carried out with 93 pregnant women who were evaluated in the 2nd trimester of pregnancy (T1) and after delivery (T2).

The negative effects of excessive gestational weight gain (GWG) and obesity during pregnancy are well documented in the literature. Neurodevelopmental Outcomes After Late Preterm Antenatal Corticosteroids: The ALPS Follow-Up Study.

Importance: The Antenatal Late Preterm Steroids (ALPS) trial changed clinical practice in the United States by finding that antenatal betamethasone at 34 to 36 weeks decreased short-term neonatal respiratory morbidity. However, the trial also found increased risk of neonatal hypoglycemia after betamethasone. This follow-up study focused on long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes after late preterm steroids.

Background: The clinical significance of kidney transplant protocol biopsies has been debated. We studied the frequency of borderline changes and T cell-mediated rejection (TCMR) in 1-y protocol biopsies in standard risk kidney transplant recipients.

Methods: Consecutive non-HLA-sensitized recipients of kidney transplants between 2006 and 2017, who underwent a protocol biopsy at 1 y in 2 national transplant centers were studied retrospectively (N = 1546).

Background: Alcohol, a widely abused drug, significantly diminishes life quality, causing chronic diseases and psychiatric issues, with severe health, societal, and economic repercussions. Previously, we demonstrated that non-voluntary alcohol consumption increases the opening of Cx43 hemichannels and Panx1 channels in astrocytes from adolescent rats. However, whether ethanol directly affects astroglial hemichannels and, if so, how this impacts the function and survival of astrocytes remains to be elucidated.

Infection-Related Hospitalizations After Simultaneous Pancreas-Kidney Transplantation Compared to Kidney Transplantation Alone.

The total burden of infections after transplantation has not been compared in detail between recipients of simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation (SPK) and kidney transplantation alone (KTA). We compared infection-related hospitalizations and bacteremias after transplantation during 1- and 5-year follow-up among 162 patients undergoing SPK. The control group consisted of 153 type 1 diabetics undergoing KTA with the inclusion criteria of donor and recipient age < 60, and BMI < 30.

The utilization of eco-innovative products has witnessed a surge in adoption, driven by their inherent capacity to address pressing environmental concerns. To comprehensively fathom the underlying motivations propelling consumers to embrace these products, we conducted an in-depth investigation employing "The Not Company" (Chile) as a compelling case study. We conducted qualitative interviews with a cohort of 20 Chilean consumers, guided by the Theory of Planned Behavior theoretical framework.
