Extracorporeal renal stone disintegration using a chemical explosive pellet (lead azide 10 mg.) as an energy source of underwater shock waves has been successfully performed in animals. The shock wave was observed by holographic interferometry.

A double blind comparative clinical trial was performed with allylestrenol (AE) and chlormadinone acetate (CMA) to investigate the clinical efficacy of AE on prostatic hypertrophy. Both drugs were administered orally for 12-16 weeks in a daily dose of 50 mg. With both drugs marked improvement of disorders of micturition and a slight decrease in the size of the hypertrophied prostatic node were observed.

The concentration of Ceftizoxime (CZX) was determined in the prostatic tissue and serum of 130 patients with benign prostatic hypertrophy. A statistical analysis was made by computer on 511 cases of testicular tumor experienced at 14 facilities in Japan between 1970 and 1979. The age distribution of the patients had two peaks, one under 3 years (15%) and the other between 25 and 34 years (32%). Forty percent of the patients were office workers and 76% were college graduates.

A rare case of ureteral stump metastasis 8 years after nephrectomy for renal cell carcinoma is reported. Twenty-six such cases are reviewed and the etiology of such lesions is discussed. Nephroureterectomy for renal cell carcinoma may be indicated when the risk of urogenous implantation and/or hematogenous spread is present.

The analgesic and antipyretic effects of oxaprozin were investigated in comparison with those of indomethacin, ibuprofen, phenylbutazone and aspirin. On the various writhing tests in mice, the analgesic effect of oxaprozin was about 2 to 9 times more potent than those of ibuprofen, phenylbutazone and aspirin. On the other hand, the analgesic and antipyretic effects of oxaprozin in rats were roughly equivalent to those of aspirin, but less effective than those of the other drugs tested.
