The recalcitrance of lignin impedes the efficient utilization of lignocellulosic biomass, hindering the efficient production of biogas and value-added materials. Despite the emergence of anaerobic digestion as a superior alternative to the aerobic method for lignin processing, achieving its feasibility requires thorough characterization of lignin-degrading anaerobic microorganisms, assessment of their biomethane production potential, and a comprehensive understanding of the degradation pathway. This study aimed to address the aforementioned necessities by bioaugmenting seed sludge with three distinct enriched lignin-degrading microbial consortia at both 25 °C and 37 °C.

Aortic valve stenosis (AS) is the most common valvular disease, and surgical or transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) are the treatment options. Diminish in platelet production or dysfunction may occur due to shear stress, advanced age, and other coexisting diseases in AS patients. Bleeding is one of the complications of TAVR and associated with increased mortality.

Objective: Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) may ameliorate renal function and increase blood pressure (BP). We aimed to investigate the association between increased BP and improved renal function (IRF) after TAVI.

Methods: A total of 176 patients who had undergone TAVI were evaluated retrospectively.

Lignin is one of the most substantial obstacles in the evaluation of lignocellulosic compounds. Although there are numerous approaches for the enhancement of lignin digestion in the literature, there has yet to be an optimized system to date. In this study, samples taken from Igneada floodplain forests were enriched anaerobically at 25 °C and 37 °C, with alkali lignin as the sole carbon source.

Introduction: Sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors have been shown to reduce the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) occurrence in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). In this prospective study, we aimed to analyze the effect of SGLT-2 inhibitors as an add-on therapy to metformin on P wave indices and atrial electromechanics in patients with type 2 DM.

Methods: A total of 144 patients enrolled.

Objective: Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) is one of the well-known complications of cardiac catheterization and related with in-hospital and long-term morbidity and mortality. We aimed to evaluate if CHA2DS2-VASc score can also be used as a surrogate for CIN development and moreover the relationship between CIN development and in-hospital major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in patients presenting with STEMI and undergoing primary PCI.

Methods: All patients presented with STEMI and underwent primary PCI between 2015-2019 in our center were included retrospectively.

Aims: A new multiplex real-time PCR (qPCR) assay was developed to detect antibiotic-resistant hospital-acquired infectious agents in nasal and rectal swab samples in 1.5 h without the need for nucleic acid extraction.

Methods: Spiked negative clinical specimens were used for the analytical performance evaluation.

Background: There are no major tools that could predict disease severity in COVID-19. The aim of this study is to evaluate if serum galectin-3 levels can identify disease progression in COVID-19.

Methods: Patients that were hospitalized due to COVID-19 between March and June 2020 were included in this cross-sectional prospective study.

Objective: COVID-19 pandemic continues to threaten human health as novel mutant variants emerge and disease severity ranges from asymptomatic to fatal. Thus, studies are needed to identify the patients with ICU need as well as those who have subsequent mortality. Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (GRACE) risk score is a validated score in acute coronary syndrome.

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019, putatively caused by infection with severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2, often involves injury to multiple organs and there are limited data regarding the mid- to long-term consequences of coronavirus disease 2019 after discharge from the hospital. The study aimed to describe the mid- to long-term consequences of coronavirus disease 2019 in hospitalized patients after discharge.

Methods: This single-center, prospective study enrolled coronavirus disease 2019 patients who were discharged uneventfully from our center.

Objective: We aimed to investigate whether C-reactive protein to albumin ratio (CAR) predicts the early and late mortality in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

Methods: This study was retrospectively designed and includes 170 TAVR patients with a mean age of 78.4±7.

Background: Serum C-reactive protein (CRP) to albumin ratio (CAR) has been defined as an inflammation-based prognostic marker. We evaluated the association and prognostic value of CRP/albumin ratio in patients with pulmonary embolism (PE).

Methods: A total of 256 patients with acute PE who were hospitalized between March 2016 and December 2020 were retrospectively reviewed.

The objectives of this study are to monitor the physicochemical properties of two freshwater lakes with different chemical characteristics and trophic status over a year (2019) and assess the bacterial diversity by a high-throughput sequencing method for a certain time. Carlson Trophic Index analysis revealed that, whereas the deep lake, Iznik Lake, (TSI = 48.9) has mesotrophic characteristics, the shallow lake Manyas Lake (TSI = 74.

Introduction: ST segment elevation (STE) in the standard 12‑lead surface electrocardiography (ECG) is a well-known finding in patients with metastatic cardiac tumors. It is important to identify the specific characteristics of STE among those patients to prevent unnecessary aggressive treatments. In the present study, we aimed to demonstrate the ECG characteristics of patients with metastatic cardiac tumors who has STE.

This particular study set out to demonstrate alterations on the microbial community of the oxic-settling-anaerobic/anoxic (OSA) process treating real domestic wastewater by changing interchange ratios (IRs). The sludge yield of systems operated at different IRs (1/13, 1/17 and 1/20) to assess sludge reduction was used to analyze microbial community composition variations. The highest IR (1/13) resulted in the highest sludge reduction (52.

In this study, organic matter degradation and microbial diversity were assessed during the composting of lignocellulose-rich digestates. Digestates were collected based on each crop type during anaerobic co-digestion of cow manure and barley, triticale, wheat and rye. Bacterial and fungal diversity in digestate composting systems were determined by 16S and 18S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing, respectively.

Nanomaterials (NMs) commercially used for various activities mostly end up in landfills. Reduced biogas productions reported in landfill reactors create a need for more comprehensive research on these greatly-diverse microbial pools. In order to evaluate the impact of one of the most widely-used NMs, namely nano-zinc oxide (nano-ZnO), simulated bioreactor and conventional landfills were operated using real municipal solid waste (MSW) for 300 days with addition nano-ZnO.

Energy-efficient biogas reactors are often designed and operated mimicking natural microbial ecosystems such as the digestive tracts of ruminants. Anaerobic fungi play a crucial role in the degradation of lignocellulose-rich fiber thanks to their high cellulolytic activity. Fungal bioaugmentation is therefore at the heart of our understanding of enhancing anaerobic digestion (AD).
