We have studied the ultrafast saturation behavior of a high-density well-aligned single-walled carbon nanotubes saturable absorber (HDWA-SWCNT SA), obtained by a high-pressure and high-temperature treatment of commercially available single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and related it to femtosecond erbium-doped fiber laser performance. We have observed the polarization dependence of a nonlinear optical saturation, along with a low saturation energy level of <1 fJ, limited to the detector threshold used, and the ultrafast response time of <250 fs, while the modulation depth was approximately 12%. We have obtained the generation of ultrashort stretched pulses with a low mode-locking launching threshold of ~100 mW and an average output power of 12.

We studied characteristics of gamma-band (30-40 Hz) EEG in dependence on the prevalence of positive or negative symptoms of schizophrenia, taking into account the state of cognitive functions. Twenty patients with ICD-10 diagnosis of schizophrenia, with different disease duration (first episode and duration of more than two years) and 38 healthy people were studied. The presence and intensity of positive and negative symptoms were measured by the PANSS scale and cognitive functions were assessed using neuropsychological tests.

We analyzed the spectral power of EEG rhythms and some psychological features in patients with depression (first episode) and in healthy subjects. In the control group, the distributions of the spectral power of the alpha3 and gamma rhythms was symmetrical. In reproducing joy, the power of the alpha3 rhythm increased in the occipital and that of the gamma rhythm increased in the temporal areas of the left hemisphere.

The epidemiological zoning of the territory of the Rostov region has been made with the use of the epidemic process patterns and the data indicating the links between the landscape and the natural focus of infection. The spread of infected ticks has been established. The participation of several carrier species in the circulation of Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever virus has been confirmed.

The results of the epidemiological analysis of the outbreak of hemorrhagic fever which was caused by Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus and occurred during the period of July 3-19, 1999, in the Oblivskaya district of Rostov Province are presented. The specific epidemiological features of the outbreak have been determined. The possible versions of the appearance of the focus of infection and the role of Ixodes ticks in the circulation of the infective agent are discussed.

A polypropylene monofilament in placing secondary sutures causes minimal damages in the tissues. The absence in a monofilament of the capillary-filtrative properties prevents the development of infiltrate, suppuration, dehiscence of the wound edges. In using a modified suture of the granulating wound, suggested by the authors, a good cosmetic and functional effect was noted.
