Article Synopsis
  • Pelvic osteotomies are surgical procedures aimed at correcting pelvic alignment and alleviating pain from pelvic ring fractures, highlighting the importance of understanding 3D deformities for effective preoperative planning.
  • A case study involving a 41-year-old male with a complicated pelvic malunion demonstrated the use of 3D modeling to analyze the deformity and create customized surgical guides.
  • The successful application of 3D-printed patient-specific guides in this surgery increased the accuracy of preoperative planning and facilitated better surgical execution, marking a significant advancement in orthopedic practices.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the impact of hormone therapy on fertility in transgender girls and emphasizes the need for counseling on fertility preservation prior to treatment.
  • Eight out of 23 participants were able to provide sperm samples for cryopreservation, with all showing at least one secondary sex characteristic.
  • The findings suggest that early referral for fertility preservation can lead to successful results, highlighting a significant proportion of transgender girls can preserve fertility despite undergoing puberty blockade.

Purpose: To describe the surgical technique and the outcome of a case series of nonunion and malunion of distal femur fractures treated with an endosteal medial plate combined with a lateral locking plate and with autogenous bone grafting.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed a series of patients with malunion or nonunion of the distal femur treated with a medial endosteal plate in combination with a lateral locking plate, in a period between January 2011 and December 2019, Database from chart review was obtained including all the clinical relevant available baseline data (demographics, type of fracture, mechanism of injury, time from injury to surgery, number of previous surgical procedures, type of bone graft, and type of lateral plate). Time to bone healing, limb alignment at follow-up and complications were documented.

Fragility fractures of the sacrum (FFS) are caused by low-energy trauma in the elderly population. Due to the nuanced symptomatology, many FFS remains unrecognized and the prevalence is underestimated. The clinical presentation varies, typically presenting with weightbearing low back pain without even remembering of a previous trauma.

Preoperative management of acetabular fracture is a major problem and no consensus has been reached in literature on the optimal treatment of this problem. We present the results of the First Italian Consensus Conference on Acetabular fracture. An extensive review of the literature has been undertaken by the organizing committee and forwarded to the panel.

Introduction: There exists substantial variability in the management of pelvic ring injuries among pelvic trauma surgeons. The objective of this study was to perform a comprehensive survey on the management of pelvic ring injuries among an international group of pelvic trauma surgeons to determine areas of agreement and disagreement.

Methods: A 45-item questionnaire was developed using an online survey platform and distributed to 30 international pelvic trauma surgeons.

In recent years, transgender individuals have experienced both greater visibility and increased discrimination, such as direct discriminatory practices and removal of Obama-era protections for transgender students. Minority stress theory suggests that discrimination toward gender identity is related to poor mental health outcomes. This hypothesis is supported by the literature regarding transgender adults and adolescents; notably, familial rejection is highlighted as having a strong association with negative outcomes.

Epidemiological research has demonstrated that youth are exposed to potentially traumatic events at high rates. Caregivers play an important role in youths' successful recovery following exposures to potentially traumatic events. However, past research has documented poor caregiver-youth agreement regarding youths' exposures to potentially traumatic events, indicating a potential lack of support for many youth exposed to such events.

The femoral head fracture has become an increasingly frequent injury, usually sustained by individuals during high-energy trauma. Regardless of the type of treatment, long-term consequences, as avascular necrosis, post-traumatic arthritis, and heterotopic ossification, may complicate the clinical outcome leading to variable degree of disability. The aim of this study was to review the clinical and radiological long-term follow-up of patients with a fracture of the femoral head.

This study used focus-group discussions in response to a video vignette to examine attitudes toward recruitment for nonintervention research involving HIV testing. Participants were 100 ethnically diverse, economically disadvantaged urban drug users, who were recruited from New York City and Hartford, Connecticut in the spring and summer of 2006. Content analyses revealed themes including (1) fears of stigma and legal trouble balanced by trustworthiness of the recruiter; (2) fears of learning one's HIV status balanced by prospects for health benefits, and (3) the right to receive fair monetary compensation balanced by risks of coercion during periods of cravings.

Well-implemented informed consent procedures demonstrate psychotherapists' respect for clients' right to self-determination and can initiate meaningful contributions to treatment through enhancing mutual trust, building rapport, and facilitating a sense of ownership. This article details key components of informed consent to psychotherapy by placing them within real-world psychotherapy scenarios. We provide information on client-therapist discussions of the nature and course of therapy, fees and payment policies, the involvement of third parties, confidentiality policies, and new and untested treatments.

Materials And Methods: Between 1987 and 2005, 55 patients were treated operatively to correct 44 malunions and 11 nonunion of the pelvic ring. These pathologies were the consequence of a nonoperative initial treatment for 38 cases, or of an inappropriate indication, such as the use of an external fixator as the definitive treatment of an unstable pelvic fracture in 15 and symphysis cerclage wiring in 2. Three patients had undergone ORIF of the lumbar spine performed by neurosurgeons, but the pelvic fractures below were ignored.

Results of the surgical treatment of 50 consecutive displaced acetabular fractures were reviewed after a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 6 years. Twenty-five fractures were complex, and 15 were treated at > or = 3 weeks postinjury. The quality of the reduction was anatomic in 74% of the patients.

The development of the structures in the posterolateral corner of the knee was studied in fifteen human embryos and seventeen fetuses by means of serial sections in the coronal and sagittal planes. The attachments of the lateral meniscus and fibular head to the popliteal tendon and muscle are formed during the process of cavitation that forms the bursa. The connection between the tendon and the posterior border of the lateral meniscus forms obliquely to follow the direction of the muscle and tendon.

Synovial sarcoma has been induced in the knee joints of rats by intra-articular injection of 9-10-dimethyl-1-2-benzanthracene. Tumours developed from three to six months after the last injection. The neoplasms obtained were classified as synovial sarcoma (50%), fibrosarcoma (25%), giant cell sarcoma (15%), malignant fibrous histiocytoma (10%).
