Introduction: Lonely people often crave social connection, but their social interactions fall short of fulfilling their needs. Although loneliness has been associated with negative views of the world, it is not clear whether these world beliefs contribute to the unfulfilling social interaction patterns that sustain loneliness. This research examined the role of world beliefs in explaining the effects of loneliness on daily frequency and quality of interaction, and the implications for sustained loneliness over time.

World Beliefs Predict the Maintenance of Satisfying Communal Relationships: The Role of Approach and Avoidance Goals.

The current research examined implications of primal world beliefs-beliefs about the world's basic character-for the maintenance of satisfying and mutually responsive relationships. In a dyadic daily diary study of romantic couples with a 1-year follow-up ( = 236 couples and 6,411 days), those who saw the world as and were more satisfied with their relationships and responsive to their partners in everyday life, they had partners who were more satisfied and responsive, and they reported greater motivation for responsiveness over the year. These findings were corroborated by partner and informant reports of responsiveness, and they were mediated by approach relationship goals.

Eye movements have long been recognized as a valuable indicator of neurological conditions, given the intricate involvement of multiple neurological pathways in vision-related processes, including motor and cognitive functions, manifesting in rapid response times. Eye movement abnormalities can indicate neurological condition severity and, in some cases, distinguish between disease phenotypes. With recent strides in imaging sensors and computational power, particularly in machine learning and artificial intelligence, there has been a notable surge in the development of technologies facilitating the extraction and analysis of eye movements to assess neurodegenerative diseases.

Differences in methylation profiles between long-term survivors and short-term survivors of IDH-wild-type glioblastoma.

Background: Patients with glioblastoma (GBM) have a median overall survival (OS) of approximately 16 months. However, approximately 5% of patients survive >5 years. This study examines the differences in methylation profiles between long-term survivors (>5 years, LTS) and short-term survivors (<1 year, STS) with isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH)-wild-type GBMs.

Collateral circulation is important for cerebral perfusion in acute ischemic strokes. Monitoring the oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) may be useful to assess collateral status or treatment efficacy. The objectives of the present study were to determine if the ORP was associated with collateral circulation status in middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusions and to identify patterns in the ORP and the collateral circulation status among patients treated with intraarterial therapy (IAT) over time.

Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma Presenting as Optic Nerve Infiltration: A Case Report.

Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which uncommonly presents with optic nerve infiltration (ONI). ONI has been reported mostly in relapse cases of PCNSL and is rarely the sole manifestation of the disease at the time of diagnosis. We report a case of a 69-year-old female who presented with progressive visual impairment with relative afferent pupillary defect (RAPD) on examination.

Prognostic value of blood biomarkers in steroid-refractory or steroid-dependent acute graft-versus-host disease: a REACH2 analysis.

Systemic steroids are the standard first-line treatment for acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD), but ∼50% of patients become steroid-refractory or dependent (SR/D). Background: In addition to poor survival rates, individuals with glioblastoma (GBM) are at risk of neurocognitive impairment due to multiple factors. This study aimed to characterize neurocognitive impairment, neurobehavioral symptoms, fatigue, sleep disturbance, and depressive symptoms in newly diagnosed GBM patients; and to examine whether neurobehavioral symptoms, fatigue, sleep, and depressive symptoms influence neurocognitive performance.

Methods: This study was part of a prospective, inception cohort, single-arm exercise intervention in which GBM patients underwent a neuropsychological assessment shortly after diagnosis (median 4 weeks; ie, baseline) and 3, 6, 12, and 18 months later, or until tumor progression.

Introduction: Substance use disorders (SUDs) are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, having a profound and global impact on health, well-being, safety, and productivity. Although traditionally the prevalence of SUDs in Israel has been estimated to be lower than those in high-income countries, estimates and characteristics of individuals with SUDs in the past decade are lacking. In this work, we explored the prevalence of SUDs among the adult Jewish population in Israel, per different classes of substances across sex, age group, and other sociodemographic factors.

This approach has the potential to protect the most vulnerable from disease and provide society an incalculable economic benefit. Allo-priming healthy elderly adults is proposed to provide universal protection from progression of any type of viral infection, including protection against progression of the current outbreak of COVID-19 infection, and any future variants of the causative SARS-CoV-2 virus or the next 'Disease X'.

Ruxolitinib for Glucocorticoid-Refractory Acute Graft-versus-Host Disease.

Background: Acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) remains a major limitation of allogeneic stem-cell transplantation; not all patients have a response to standard glucocorticoid treatment. In a phase 2 trial, ruxolitinib, a selective Janus kinase (JAK1 and JAK2) inhibitor, showed potential efficacy in patients with glucocorticoid-refractory acute GVHD.

Methods: We conducted a multicenter, randomized, open-label, phase 3 trial comparing the efficacy and safety of oral ruxolitinib (10 mg twice daily) with the investigator's choice of therapy from a list of nine commonly used options (control) in patients 12 years of age or older who had glucocorticoid-refractory acute GVHD after allogeneic stem-cell transplantation.
