Background: Needle aspiration of calcific deposits (NACD) is a frequently used treatment for rotator cuff calcific tendinitis (RCCT). However, a substantial number of patients experience recurrent or persisting shoulder symptoms after NACD.
Purpose: To compare the effects of adjuvant application of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) after NACD (NACP+PRP) with those of conventional NACD with corticosteroids (NACD+corticosteroids) on pain, shoulder function, and quality of life (QoL).
Objective: To identify prognostic factors for the effectiveness of needle aspiration of calcific deposits (NACD) for rotator cuff calcific tendinitis (RCCT) METHODS: One hundred forty-nine patients with symptomatic RCCT were included in a prospective cohort study. Pain (VAS), shoulder function (SST and DASH), and quality of life (EQ-5D) were assessed at baseline and at 3, 6, and 12 months post-NACD. Univariate analyses (independent t tests or Mann-Whitney U tests depending on the distribution of data) were performed to build a multivariable linear regression model.

Furthermore, analyses of complications of the procedure in large series are scarce.
Methods: 431 consecutive patients with symptomatic CTRC treated by NACD were included in this retrospective cohort study.
Unlabelled: The primary aim of this clinical and radiostereometric study was to study the migration pattern of the surface replacement trapeziometacarpal joint prosthesis (SRTMC, Avanta, San Diego, CA). The secondary aims were to assess patient-related outcomes and prosthesis survival 5 years after surgery. Ten patients received the prosthesis.

Methods: In five cadaveric hands the TMC-joint was replaced by the Surface Replacement Trapeziometacarpal prosthesis (SR™ TMC prosthesis; Avanta, San Diego, CA) and tantalum beads of 0.8 mm were implanted for RSA.
Introduction: Although NACD has proven to be an effective minimal invasive treatment for calcific tendinitis of the rotator cuff, little is known about the factors associated with treatment failure or the need for multiple procedures.
Methods: Patients with symptomatic calcific tendinitis who were treated by NACD were evaluated in a retrospective cohort study. Demographic details, medical history, sonographic and radiographic findings were collected from patient files.

Anxiety is found to play an important role in the severity complaint of tinnitus patients. However, when investigating anxiety in tinnitus patients, most studies make use of verbal reports of affect (e.g.

Tinnitus has been defined as a phantom auditory perception. Research indicates the necessity to make a distinction between the physical symptom and the subjective severity of the tinnitus symptom, since especially the latter seems to vary among patients. The relationship between tinnitus severity and psychological variables has been well established.

Objective: In this study, the authors investigated whether tinnitus severity is a problem related to depression. If so, the following 2 conditions should be fulfilled: first, there should be evidence for the presence of moderate to severe depressive symptomatology in a substantial group of tinnitus patients; second, there should be evidence of a substantial relationship between depressive symptoms and tinnitus severity.
Study Design: Cross-sectional.
Chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is seldom complicated by renal function disorder, but when this occurs the consequences are serious. In addition to the known effects of 5-aminosalicylates, there is also evidence that tubulo-interstitial nephritis (TIN) occurs as an extra-intestinal manifestation of IBD. A 27-year-old woman with colitis ulcerosa, developed end-stage renal insufficiency due to a mesalazine-induced TIN.

Four experienced breast radiologists received instructions regarding the use of BI-RADS and they assessed 57 mammograms into BI-RADS density categories of 1-4. The weighted kappa values for breast density between pairs of observers were 0.

The studies as described are aimed at determining the efficacy of newly developed calcium phosphate cement when this material is used as a bone defect filler or gap filler around metal implants. An overview is provided about bone graft substitutes and methods of metal implant fixation.

The cement was not used to form a cement mantle as is routinely done in PMMA cemented prostheses but functioned as an additive to fill the small gaps that exist between a press-fit placed titanium plasma sprayed implant and the bone bed. Six pair of Beagle femora were used in this study.

This in vivo study evaluated the fixation of two types of titanium implants with the use of an injectable calcium-phosphate (CaP) cement. The cement was either used to create a cement mantle (Type A implant) or as an additive to press-fit placed titanium plasma sprayed implants (Type B implant). The implants were placed in trabecular bone of the medial femoral condyle of goats and left in place for 2 and 10 weeks.

We investigated the relationship between FGFR3 status and three molecular markers (MIB-1, P53, and P27kip1) associated with worse prognosis and determined the reproducibility of pathologic grade and molecular variables.
Patients And Methods: In this multicenter study, we included 286 patients with primary (first diagnosis) UCC.
We conducted an in vivo experiment to evaluate the resorption rate of a calcium phosphate cement (CPC) with macropores larger than 100 microm, using the CPC called Biocement D (Merck Biomaterial, Darmstadt, Germany), which after setting only shows pores smaller than 1 microm. The gas bubble method used during the setting process created macroporosity. Preset nonporous and porous cement implants were inserted into the trabecular bone of the tibial metaphysis of goats.

For one of the cements (cement D) the tissue reaction was also investigated after varying the concentration of accelerator Na(2)HPO(4) in the cement liquid (resulting in cement D1 and D2). Eight healthy mature female Saanen goats were used.

Twenty-four step-like implants, creating gaps of 1 and 2 mm, were inserted into the trabecular bone of the medial femoral condyles of six goats. Four different situations were tested: (1) implant + gaps; (2) implant + gaps, but covered with a polylactic acid membrane; (3) implant + gaps that were filled with Ca-P cement; and (4) implant + gaps that were filled with Ca-P cement and covered with a membrane.

The aim of this study was to investigate the physicochemical, biological, and handling properties of a new developed calcium phosphate (Ca-P) cement when implanted in trabecular bone. Ca-P cement consisting of a powder and a liquid phase was implanted as a paste into femoral trabecular bone of goats for 3 days and 2, 8, 16, and 24 weeks. The cement was tested using three clinically relevant liquid-to-powder ratios.

The tumor cells proliferate in networks of follicular dendritic cells and are believed to be capable of somatic hypermutation and isotype switching. To investigate the relation between somatic mutation and heavy chain isotype expression, we analyzed the variable heavy (V(H)) chain genes of 30 FL samples of different isotypes.
