A Rare Case of Acute Myeloid Leukemia Initially Presenting With Fever of Unknown Origin and Rapidly Progressing Pericardial Effusion.

This case report highlights a patient who had persistent fevers for weeks and rapidly progressing pericardial effusion following a positive test for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) two weeks before presentation to the hospital. The initial thought was that her fever was of infectious etiology, but relevant investigations led to the diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). AML, which is characterized by clonal expansion of immature "blast cells" in the peripheral blood and bone marrow resulting in ineffective erythropoiesis and bone marrow failure, is the most prevalent form of leukemia.

Objective: The negative impact of weight gain is a common problem facing all patients, but it is especially concerning in the seriously mentally ill population. The literature is replete with interventions to mitigate weight gain in this population; however, most focus on outpatient settings. This study was undertaken to quantify weight gain in an inpatient setting and to assess whether instituted interventions to reduce weight gain were effective.

A survey of poison center knowledge and utilization among urban and rural residents of Arizona.

Background: Poison control centers (PCCs) hold great potential for saving health care resources particularly by preventing unnecessary medical evaluations. We developed a survey to better identify the needs and experiences of our service community. We hope to use these data to improve PCC outreach education and overall use of our services.
