The synthesis is reported of β-D-fructopyranosyl-(2→6)-D-glucopyranose that had previously been isolated from a fermented plant extract as a new saccharide. A disaccharide was predominately formed from an equal amount of D-glucose and D-fructose under melting conditions at 140 °C for 60 to 90 min. This saccharide was isolated from the reaction mixture by carbon-Celite column chromatography and preparative HPLC, and was confirmed to be β-D-fructopyranosyl-(2→6)-D-glucopyranose by TOF-MS and NMR analyses.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe measured the gene expression, glycocalyx content, and surface properties of human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCAECs) cultured on poly(sodium p-styrene sulfonate) (PNaSS) hydrogels with various levels of elasticity ranged in 3-300 kPa. We found that all HCAECs reached confluence on these hydrogels while retaining the similar expression of EC-specific markers to that on polystyrene (PS), a widely used scaffold in cell culture in vitro. Real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and glycosaminoglycan (GAG) assay showed that the amount of EC-specific glycocalyx secreted by HCAECs cultured on PNaSS gels was higher than that cultured on PS, and it increased with an increase of gel elasticity.

In this work, we show that inhibition of EGFR with tyrphostin AG1478 enhances oridonin-induced cell death in human laryngeal cancer cells HEp-2, a cell line characterized by EGFR gene amplification. The enhanced apoptotic effect correlates with high expression and activation of Bax, FADD, caspase-8 as well as caspase-3 and decreased protein levels of Bcl(2) and SIRT1, suggesting that both the extrinsic and intrinsic apoptosis pathways are involved in the apoptotic processes.

Methods And Materials: The trajectories of gold markers in the lung were tracked with the real-time tumor-tracking radiotherapy system. The SBF was used for patient immobilization and the diaphragm press and Abches were used to actively control breathing and for self-controlled respiration, respectively.
The thermal reactions of 2,4,6-T(3)CP in the presence and absence of DEHP in a dry air stream was investigated using a silica flow reactor at a residence time of 10s and a temperature range from 450 degrees C to 850 degrees C. Two isomers of T(4)CDDs (1,3,6,8- and 1,3,7,9-T(4)CDDs) were the most abundant products during the combustion of 2,4,6-T(3)CP alone and were observed at temperatures ranging from 550 degrees C to 800 degrees C. In the presence of DEHP, we observed a remarkable decrease in the yields of T(4)CDDs during the combustion of 2,4,6-T(3)CP.

We found that silibinin exhibited a protective effect against chemotherapeutic reagent mitomycin C-induced cell death in A375-S2 cells in a p53-dependent manner, which contradicted the findings of previous studies investigating the anti-neoplastic activity of silibinin and developing silibinin as a potential anti-neoplastic drug in clinical therapy.
