Article Synopsis
  • * This study focuses on using electrolytic manganese dioxide (γ-MnO), a cost-effective material, to extract lithium from the Tuzla Geothermal Power Plant in Turkey through a mini-pilot reactor setup.
  • * The research demonstrated effective lithium sorption/desorption, achieving up to 230 mg/L of lithium concentration after multiple cycles, while also confirming that the γ-MnO sorbent retains significant efficiency even after reuse.

Background: Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) remains a common complication after cardiac surgery. The ability to accurately identify patients at risk through previous risk scores is limited. This study aimed to evaluate the new HARMS2-AF risk score to predict POAF after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery.

Objective: To predict the possibility of postoperative atrial fibrillation (AF) with mitral annular plane systolic excursion (MAPSE) measurement, which is a cheap, reproducible echocardiographic method and to monitor these patients more closely and to evaluate them more effectively postoperatively.

Material And Methods: 247 patients scheduled for coronary artery bypass surgery were evaluated and 200 patients were included in the study. The enrolled patients were classified into the two groups according to the occurrence of postoperative AF or maintained sinus rhythm after coronary artery bypass surgery (normal sinus rhythm [NSR] group vs.

Objective: The MORtality in CORonary Care Units in Türkiye (MORCOR-TURK) trial is a national registry evaluating predictors and rates of in-hospital mortality in coronary care unit (CCU) patients in Türkiye. This report describes the baseline demographic characteristics of patients recruited for the MORCOR-TURK trial.

Methods: The study is a multicenter, cross-sectional, prospective national registry that included 50 centers capable of 24-hour CCU service, selected from all seven geographic regions of Türkiye.

Objectives: To evaluate the cognitive status with a simple practical test, clock drawing test (CDT), in a larger multiple sclerosis (MS) patient group and in comparison, with controls.

Methods: We included 171 patients (17-65 years) with MS and clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) and 98 healthy controls who applied between date 2018-2020 years in Neurology Department of Pamukkale University. The CDTs were applied to all subjects.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in many neurological conditions, and neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's disease (AD) regulate gene expression at transcriptional, post-transcriptional, and epigenetic levels. However, the roles of lncRNAs in the pathogenesis of AD remain unclear. In this study, we aimed to determine the expression of lncRNAs and also mRNAs in AD which may alter expression and contribute to the pathogenesis of the disease.

Background And Aims: P wave dispersion (PWD) has been reported to be a non-invasive electrocardiographic predictor for atrial fibrillation. The aim of this study is to evaluate PWD between men with erectile dysfunction (ED) and healthy controls in order to investigate whether PWD was prolonged in patients with ED and related to severity of the disease.

Methods: This study included a total of 72 men (42 patients with ED and 30 healthy controls).

Objective: We investigated the role of selenium in bevacizumab induced cardiotoxicity and involvement of transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) channels in cardiomyocytes.

Materials And Methods: All cells (Human cardiomyocyte cell line) were cultured at 37 °C. We divided the cells into seven groups as control, bevacizumab, bevacizumab + capsazepin, bevacizumab + selenium, bevacizumab + selenium + capsazepin, selenium and selenium + capsazepin groups.

Objectives: Digoxin is a cardiac glycoside which is widely used in cardiovascular medicine. Oxidative stress, as well as intracellular Ca2+ overload, plays an important role in digoxin toxicity. Transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) channels are found in cardiomyocyte cells and they are activated by reactive oxygen species.

KFeO is demonstrated to be an efficient catalyst for the formation of boron nitride nanotubes (BNNT) by thermal chemical vapor deposition (TCVD). This alkali-based catalyst enables the formation of crystalline, multi-walled BNNTs with high aspect ratio at temperatures as low as 750 °C, significantly lower than those typically required for the product formation by TCVD.

Neurofibromatosis type I (NF1) is a rare genetic disease caused by mutations in the NF1 gene, which encodes the tumor suppressor neurofibromin. Precapillary pulmonary hypertension is a severe complication of NF1, initially described in patients with advanced parenchymal lung disease, which may complicate the course of NF1. Presently described is a case of neurofibromatosis complicated by pulmonary hypertension.
