Electron Spin-Dependent Electrocatalysis for the Oxygen Reduction Reaction in a Chiro-Self-Assembled Iron Phthalocyanine Device.

The chiral-induced spin selectivity effect (CISS) is a breakthrough phenomenon that has revolutionized the field of electrocatalysis. We report the first study on the electron spin-dependent electrocatalysis for the oxygen reduction reaction, ORR, using iron phthalocyanine, FePc, a well-known molecular catalyst for this reaction. The FePc complex belongs to the non-precious catalysts group, whose active site, FeN4, emulates catalytic centers of biocatalysts such as Cytochrome c.

TEMPO-Attached Pre-fluorescent Probes Based on Pyridinium Fluorophores.

The photophysical behavior of three pyridinium-derived fluorophores, the N-aryl-2,4,6-triphenylpyridinium, the N-aryl-5,6-dihydro-2,4-diphenylbenzo[h]quinolinium and the N-aryl-5,6,8,9-tetrahydro-7-phenyldibenzo[c,h]acridinium perchlorates, was investigated. Comparison of their fluorescence quantum yields led to the preparation of a novel, more sensitive pyridinium-based, TEMPO-attached prefluorescent probe for H-abstraction processes, the N-{4-[4-(N-oxyl-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinyl)carbonylamino]phenyl}-5,6,8,9-tetrahydro-7-phenyldibenzo[c,h]-acridinium perchlorate.

Treatment of early rheumatoid arthritis in a multinational inception cohort of Latin American patients: the GLADAR experience.

Background: Treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has evolved dramatically in the last decade. However, little is known about the way rheumatologists in Latin America treat their patients in clinical practice, outside the scope of clinical trials.

Objective: The objective of this study was to describe treatment patterns at disease onset in early RA with data from a large, multicenter, multinational inception cohort of Latin American patients.

[Laparoscopic lumboaortic retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy in testicular neoplasm].

Lumboaortic lymphadenectomy is a therapeutic alternative for patients with nonseminomatous testis tumors and its principal untoward effect is the loss of ejaculation. The anatomic knowledge of lymph node metastasis allows lower limit definition of aortic dissection, maintaining the diagnostic sensitivity and ejaculation. We report three patients with nonseminomatous testis tumors subjected to a reduced video-laparoscopic lumboaortic lymphadenectomy.

[Laparoscopic nephrectomy: report of 2 cases].

Laparoscopic surgery has become very popular in general surgery. Its most significant advantages for patients are a better postoperative comfort and fast return to work. We report two young female patients with a gynecologic cancer in whom a laparoscopic nephrectomy was performed.
