The worldwide increase in infections caused by extended-spectrum beta-lactamase- (ESBL) and AmpC-producing Enterobacteriaceae (ESBL-E) is a concern. Surveillance is extensive in Europe, North America, and Asia. Yet, there is no summarizing surveillance in Africa.

The disparities in cancer care outcomes for many geographic regions result from barriers that are likely complex and understudied. This study describes the development and use of a streamlined needs assessment questionnaire (NAQ) to understand the barriers to providing quality cancer care, identifies areas for improvement, and formulates recommendations for implementation.

To present anastomosis with cyanoacrylate as a cheap, simple, fast, and available technique for anastomosis in urological, vascular, gynecological, and general surgical procedures. This method may in the future be a good alternative to microsurgery, particularly in centers where facilities are unavailable and the financial implication is unbearable for the patient. Cyanoacrylate is an adhesive or glue that is available in different chemical forms ranging from ethylcyanoacrylate (superglue) to Isobutylcyanoacrylate and octylcyanoacrylate (dermerbond), which is in clinical use.

The reaction principle was based on the complexation reaction between the drugs (pi-donors) and chloranilic acid (pi-acceptor) giving rise to colour formation. The complexes of sulfadoxine and pyrimethamine absorbed maximally at 500 and 520 nm, respectively.

The absorption maxima for sulfadoxine and pyrimethamine were observed at 500 and 520 nm, respectively. We observed a bathochromic shift in the transitions of these complexes with respect to chloranilic acid, which absorb at 420 nm.

Aqueous extracts of the stem bark of the plant was used for the study. The in vivo antiplasmodial activity of the aqueous extract against Plasmodium berghei was assessed using the suppressive and curative test procedures.

Fifty-five strains of Helicobacter pylori isolated from November 1997 until October 1998 from 33 female and 22 male adults attending for endoscopy at the Evangel Hospital, Jos, Nigeria were assayed for antibiotic susceptibility to amoxycillin, clarithromycin, metronidazole and tetracycline by the E-test strip method. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) within the attainable peak serum concentrations for each drug was used as the parameter to determine the susceptibility of H. pylori.

Clinical signs included bleeding from the nose, mouth and vagina before death. Necropsy revealed pneumonia with consolidation of one or both lungs, haemopericardium and haemothorax.

We report our experience in cardiac output measurements using a single catheter for left ventricular green dye injection with sampling from the side arm of a femoral artery introducer sheath. This technique is compared to thermal dilution (20 patients) and pulmonary artery green dye injection (20 patients). There were no significant differences between the single catheter left ventricular method and the other two accepted methods for measuring cardiac output.
