Introduction: The most prevalent complication in hypospadias repair is fistula formation. Adhering to the principle of providing urethroplasty coverage to mitigate fistula occurrence, we implemented a modification by integrating a spongiosum layer between the urethroplasty and the dartos flap. Our hypothesis posited that this approach would result in a reduced fistula formation rate.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to characterize prostatic nodules termed "beach balls" (BBs), which are resistant to surgical morcellation during prostate procedures.
  • Researchers examined data from 559 holmium laser enucleation procedures and found that the BBs group (10% of patients) was older, had larger prostates, and experienced longer operating times, higher complication rates, and longer hospital stays compared to controls.
  • The analysis indicated that larger prostate size (above 103 cc) and older age are key predictors of BBs, which are predominantly composed of a stromal component that makes them more difficult to remove surgically.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of sacral neuromodulation (SNM) in patients with underlying neurologic conditions and compare outcomes to non-neurogenic patients.

Methods: Between 2017-2022 patients undergoing 2-staged implantation of InterStim II were included in a single-center retrospective study. Patients were allocated into two groups: underlying neurologic conditions (group 1) or non-neurogenic (group 2).

Article Synopsis
  • Hypospadias is a condition affecting penile development, and the main aim of its surgery is to ensure both normal appearance and function of the penis, measured by complications and cosmetic outcomes.
  • The study analyzed 126 boys who underwent hypospadias repair, focusing on factors like the severity of the condition and initial evaluation scores (HOPE and GMS), to predict cosmetic results six months post-surgery.
  • Results showed that 81% of participants achieved optimal cosmetic results (HOPE score ≥ 57), highlighting the effectiveness of the tubularized incised plate urethroplasty technique used in these repairs.

Initial deleterious effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on urologic oncology surgeries are well described, but the possible influence of vaccination efforts and those of pandemic conditions on surgical volumes is unclear. Our aim was to examine the association between changing vaccination status and COVID-19 burden throughout the pandemic and the volume of urologic oncology surgeries in Israel. This multi-center cross-sectional study included data collected from five tertiary centers between January 2019 and December 2021.
