Background: There are few studies for detecting rhythm abnormalities among healthy children and adolescents. The aim of the study was to investigate the prevalence of abnormal electrocardiographic findings in the young Iranian population and its association with blood pressure and obesity.

Methods: A total of 15084 children and adolescents were examined in a randomly selected population of Tehran city, Iran, between October 2017 and December 2018.

The Beneficial Effects of Probiotics via Autophagy: A Systematic Review.

Probiotics are living microorganisms increasingly used to treat or modulate different diseases or disorders because of their benefits and also low adverse reaction, and their positive and protective effects on various cells and tissues have been reported. The mechanisms by which probiotics exert their beneficial effects in different cells and tissues were investigated, and autophagy is one of the main mechanisms to induce their positive effects. Autophagy is a conserved process that occurs in all eukaryotic cells and plays an essential role in homeostasis and cell survival by degrading damaged and dysfunctional intracellular organelles.

Method: This case-control study was conducted on 23 children, clinically diagnosed as osteogenesis imperfecta and 23 age- and gender-matched healthy controls.

Association of vitamin D and FGF23 with serum ferritin in hypoparathyroid thalassemia: a case control study.

Background: FGF23 controls serum l,25(OH)D levels and phosphate homeostasis. This study evaluates the effects of ferritin on intact PTH, FGF23, and l,25(OH)D in patients with major thalassemia. It also evaluates FGF23 changes in patients with hypoparathyroidism to clarify the interaction between FGF23 and PTH in the absence of proper PTH functioning in human.

Bone mineral density in transfusion-dependent thalassemia patients and its associated factors in Southern Iran.

Interaction between serum FGF-23 and PTH in renal phosphate excretion, a case-control study in hypoparathyroid patients.

Background: phosphate homeostasis is mediated through complex counter regulatory feed-back balance between parathyroid hormone, FGF-23 and 1,25(OH)2D. Both parathyroid hormone and FGF-23 regulate proximal tubular phosphate excretion through signaling on sodium- phosphate cotransporters II and II. However, the interaction between these hormones on phosphate excretion is not clearly understood.

Compilation of a model for hazardous waste disposal site selection using GIS-based multi-purpose decision-making models.

Nowadays, given the high production volume of industrial and dangerous materials and their impacts on the human society and environment, disposal of waste materials in the environment and finding the best disposal site for industrial and hazardous wastes, as the most significant managerial measure, have become one of the most important and complex decisions in urban management. In order to find a disposal site, analysis of spatial data, laws, and large socioeconomic and environmental criteria is required. Multi-criteria analysis techniques coupled with GIS capabilities can be a good solution for this.

Revised reference curves of bone mineral density according to age and sex for Iranian children and adolescents.

Unlabelled: Bone health evaluation in children requires an appropriate reference database. We have shown higher curves for spine aBMD in Iranian subjects than Americans, but lower curves for femoral neck and total body. These results can be used as reference values to assist Iranian clinicians in interpreting and monitoring bone densitometry results.

Mid-term outcomes of mechanical pulmonary valve replacement: a single-institutional experience of 396 patients.

Objectives: Previous small-sized studies have demonstrated the safety and efficacy of mechanical pulmonary valve replacement (mPVR) in patients with congenital heart disease; however, the predictors of major complications and reoperation remained unclear.

Methods: In a retrospective study, we reported the mid-term outcomes of a large-scaled series of patients, 396 patients, with congenital heart diseases who underwent mPVR in a single institution.

Results: The patients' mean age at mPVR was 24.

Bone mineral density loss in ambulatory children with epilepsy in spite of using supplemental vitamin D in Southern Iran: a case-control study.

Epilepsy might have adverse effect on bone density due to underlying disease, drugs, vitamin D deficiency, immobilization and malnutrition.
