Diagnosis ideally involves microscopy and culture of scalp scrapings, which is not always feasible in resource-poor settings. Small-scale reports have identified trichoscopy (dermoscopy of hair and surrounding skin) as a cheap, quick, and simple tool for evaluating TC.
