Introduction: Victims of interpersonal violence in sports show various mental health concerns. However, no studies have quantitatively examined their primary complaints, considering psychological symptoms such as denial of self-concept and interpersonal challenges not captured by conventional post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Recently, an association between interpersonal violence victimization and complex PTSD (CPTSD) has been noted in Japanese sports coaching situations, specifically for extracurricular sports activities.

Examination of the effect of physical therapy combined with kinesiology taping on pain and muscle weakness in patients with knee osteoarthritis.

[Purpose] Symptoms of knee osteoarthritis include pain, limited range of motion, and muscle weakness. Conservative treatment for knee osteoarthritis includes exercise therapy, physical therapy, and taping therapy. Kinesiology taping has gained traction in clinical practice for knee osteoarthritis treatment owing to its therapeutic benefits.

Risk factors for mediastinal lymph node metastasis and lung metastasis in papillary thyroid carcinoma patients: who benefits from preoperative computed tomography?

In papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) patients with mediastinal lymph nodes (LN) and lung metastases, adding preoperative computed tomography (CT) to ultrasound is useful for planning surgery. We identified risk factors (RFs) for mediastinal lymph node metastasis (MLNM) and lung metastasis in PTC patients. Frequencies of MLNM and lung metastases were compared in 478 patients.

Outcomes of Patients with an Intermediate-Risk Group According to the Japanese Risk Classification of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma.

Background: The management of intermediate-risk group of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is still vague, particularly regarding whether or not total thyroidectomy, postoperative radioactive iodine ablation (RAI-a), and postoperative TSH suppression are mandatory.

Methods: This retrospective study evaluated 680 PTC patients from 2010 to 2017, who were classified into the three risk groups as low, intermediate, and high-risk groups according to the criteria of the Japanese Association of Endocrine Surgeons (JAES) 2010 and underwent surgery according to the JAES guidelines. We retrospectively collected patient data for analyses of disease-free survivals in the intermediate-risk group patients.

Dosimetric impact of systematic spot position errors in spot scanning proton therapy of head and neck tumor.

Purpose: The spot position is an important beam parameter in the quality assurance of scanning proton therapy. In this study, we investigated dosimetric impact of systematic 15 spot position errors (SSPE) in spot scanning proton therapy using three types of optimization methods of head and neck tumor.

Materials And Methods: The planning simulation was performed with ± 2 mm model SSPE in the X and Y directions.

Fear, anxiety, and production in laying hens with healed keel bone fractures.

For laying hens, the immediate aftermath and healing period of a keel fracture (KF) is characterized by reduced ability to perform species-specific behavior, access resources, and pain. However, the longer-term impacts, once the fracture is completely healed, are less clear. As well as acute pain and behavioral changes, a negative experience can shape future responses to putatively threatening stimuli, raising future fear, and anxiety levels during husbandry-related events.

Pathological multifocality is not a prognosis factor of papillary thyroid carcinoma: a single-center, retrospective study.

Introduction: Non-total thyroidectomy (non-TTx) is a widely accepted operative procedure for low-risk papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). PTC patients preoperatively diagnosed with unifocal disease are often revealed as having multifocal foci by microscopy. The present study determined whether or not patients with clinically unifocal, but pathologically multifocal non-high-risk PTC treated with non-TTx have an increased risk of a poor prognosis compared to those with pathologically unifocal PTC.

Papillary thyroid microcarcinoma with multiple pulmonary metastases following lung cancer surgery: a case report.

Background: Distant metastasis is extremely rare for papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) without lymph node metastasis or extrathyroidal extension, for which active surveillance (AS) is indicated. The evaluation of distant metastases in low-risk PTMC is controversial. A case of PTMC in which AS would have been performed if chest CT and lung surgery had not been performed is reported.

Breast metastasis from medullary thyroid carcinoma: a report of a case.

Background: Metastasis to the breast is rare. We herein report a patient with metastatic medullary thyroid carcinoma to the breast for whom measuring the calcitonin level was an important clue to the correct diagnosis.

Case Presentation: A 54-year-old woman visited our hospital for the treatment of recurrent metastatic medullary thyroid carcinoma due to multiple endocrine neoplasia 2A and breast cancer.

Dosimetric effects of quality assurance-related setup errors in passive proton therapy for prostate cancer with and without a hydrogel spacer.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of quality assurance (QA)-related setup errors in passive proton therapy for prostate cancer with and without a hydrogel spacer. We used 20 typical computed tomography (CT) images of prostate cancer: 10 patients with and 10 patients without spacers. The following 12 model errors were assumed: output error ± 2%, range error ± 1 mm, setup error ± 1 mm for three directions, and multileaf collimator (MLC) position error ± 1 mm.

Effect of Graft Rupture Prevention Training on Young Athletes After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: An 8-Year Prospective Intervention Study.

Background: There is a lack of research on the effects of a postoperative rehabilitation program on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) graft rupture.

Hypothesis: We hypothesized that a hip-focused rehabilitation protocol with graft rupture education and avoidance training (HIP-GREAT program) would demonstrate lower ACL graft rupture rates compared with a traditional physical therapy (PT) program.

Radioactive iodine treatment of papillary thyroid carcinoma in Japan.

We have a unique history of using radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy and surgical treatment for thyroid cancer in Japan. Less than total thyroidectomy without RAI therapy was the most common management of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) in the past. Limited availability of dedicated facilities for the RAI administration due to the strict regulations and insufficient coverage of the expenses were the major reasons that impacted on the management decisions.

Parathyroid carcinoma in a 13-year-old girl with a long-term survival.

Background: Parathyroid carcinoma as a cause of primary hyperparathyroidism in children is extremely rare. We report a case of parathyroid carcinoma which occurred in a 13-year-old girl who survived for more than 45 years after the first operation.

Case Presentation: A woman was admitted to our hospital for the treatment of recurrent parathyroid carcinoma in the neck.

Developing a clinical prediction rule to identify patients with lumbar disc herniation who demonstrate short-term improvement with mechanical lumbar traction.

Objective: To develop a clinical prediction rule (CPR) that predicts treatment responses to mechanical lumbar traction (MLT) among patients with lumbar disc herniation (LDH).

Method: This study was an uncontrolled prospective cohort study. The subjects included 103 patients diagnosed with LDH for which they underwent conservative therapy.

Analysis of the dielectrophoretic properties of cells using the isomotive AC electric field.

Various microfluidic devices utilizing the principle of dielectrophoresis (DEP) have been developed to separate, concentrate, and characterize biological cells; however, their performance is still limited by a lack of quantitative characterization. We addressed this limitation by employing a method capable of accurately quantifying a cell's response to an imposed field gradient. In this study, a simple method using a newly designed Creek-gap electrode was proposed, and the electrokinetic behavior of cells was characterized by DEP velocimetry under the exposure of an approximately constant gradient of electric field square established along the gap of the electrodes.

Background: Programs to prevent anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in female basketball players are scarce. Also, ACL injury prevention training that focuses on hip joint function has not been reported.

Purpose: To determine the effectiveness of a hip-focused ACL injury prevention program in female basketball players.

Parathyroid carcinoma occurred in two glands in multiple endocrine neoplasia 1: a report on a rare case.

Primary hyperparathyroidism is the most common hormonal manifestation associated with multiple endocrine neoplasia 1 (MEN1). It is generally caused by parathyroid hyperplasia, and parathyroid carcinoma is rare. Here, we report a case of MEN1 with parathyroid carcinoma in two parathyroid glands causing primary hyperparathyroidism.

Impact of "Tailored" Parathyroidectomy for Treatment of Primary Hyperparathyroidism in Patients with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 1.

Background: Whether total parathyroidectomy (TPTX) or subtotal parathyroidectomy (SPTX) should be performed for primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) in patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) is controversial. At our institution, the parathyroidectomy strategy is based on the number of enlarged intraoperative parathyroid glands. We retrospectively analyzed our parathyroidectomy procedures.

Comparative studies on the contribution of NHS hydrogen bonds in tungsten and molybdenum benzenedithiolate complexes.

A series of monooxotungsten(iv) and dioxotungsten(vi) benzenedithiolates, (NEt)[WO(1,2-S-3-RCONHCH)] (1-W; R = CH (a), t-Bu (b), or CF (c)) and (NEt)[WO(1,2-S-3-RCONHCH)] (2-W), were synthesized and compared with the corresponding molybdenum analogues. Single crystals of trans-1b-W were successfully obtained, and the crystal structure was determined by X-ray analysis although 1b-Mo could not be crystallized. The NHS hydrogen bonds shifted the potential of the W(iv/v) redox couple to more positive values, and the strength of the hydrogen bond and the positive shift value were strongly correlated.

A monooxotungsten(iv) benzenedithiolate complex containing two intramolecular NHS hydrogen bonds, (NEt4)2[W(IV)O(1,2-S2-3-t-BuNHCOC6H3)2] (1-W), was synthesized via a ligand-exchange reaction between a new starting complex, (NEt4)2[W(IV)O(SC6F5)4], and a partially deprotonated dithiol. When dithiol was used in solution, the oxo ligand was protonated and removed to afford (NEt4)2[W(IV)(1,2-S2-3-t-BuNHCOC6H3)3]. The trans isomer, trans-1-W, was crystallized, and the molecular structure was determined via X-ray analysis.

Strong NH···S hydrogen bonds in molybdoenzyme models containing anilide moieties.

Monooxomolybdenum(IV) and dioxomolybdenum(VI) benzenedithiolate derivatives containing anilide moieties were synthesized and characterized by (1)H NMR, UV-visible, IR, and Raman spectroscopies. These complexes exhibit very strong intramolecular NH···S hydrogen bonds formed by the acidic anilide NH proton and the desired coplanar structure, resulting in significantly positive redox potential and remarkable acceleration in the reduction of Me3NO in DMF.

Systematic investigation of relationship between strength of NH···S hydrogen bond and reactivity of molybdoenzyme models.

A series of monooxomolybdenum(IV) and dioxomolybdenum(VI) complexes containing two intramolecular NH···S hydrogen bonds were synthesized and characterized by (1)H NMR, UV-visible, IR, and Raman spectroscopies, and electrochemical measurements. Elimination of the steric effects enabled the accurate and quantitative evaluation of NH···S hydrogen bonds. Strong correlations among the strength of the hydrogen bond, the strength of the Mo(VI)═O bond, and the redox potential were clearly shown.
