Primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), if caused by elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), may require a trabeculotomy (LOT), in which the trabecular meshwork (TM) and Schlemm's canal (ISC) are incised. However, the association between the incision angle and outcomes remains unclear. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the surgical outcomes of a trabeculotomy combined with cataract surgery in patients with POAG over a 12-month follow-up period.

Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is primarily caused by the exposure of preterm infants with underdeveloped blood vessels to high oxygen concentrations. In this study, the aim was to investigate the differences in the characteristics of astrocytes and blood vessels between wild-type (WT) and genetically modified mice overexpressing platelet-derived growth factor subunit A (PDGF-A) in the retina immediately after high oxygen exposure, a protocol in the oxygen-induced retinopathy (OIR) model of ROP.

The efficacy and safety of lenvatinib plus pembrolizumab in vulnerable patients with metastatic or recurrent endometrial cancer: a single institution experience.

Background: Effective management with second-line therapy with the lenvatinib + pembrolizumab regimen for patients with advanced endometrial cancer is necessary.

Methods: This retrospective study enrolled patients with endometrial cancer treated with the lenvatinib + pembrolizumab regimen. We evaluated progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), safety for patients non-eligible for the KEYNOTE775 trial, aged ≥65 years, or with ECOG performance status 1-2.

The effect of fibroblast growth factor 2 on neovascular vessels depends on the stage of angiogenesis.

Objective: The exact relationship between fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2) and choroidal neovascularization (CNV) remains unclear. In this study, using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and FGF2-tg mice which are transgenic mice with a rhodopsin promoter/FGF2 gene fusion, we aimed to investigate the dynamics of FGF2's role in angiogenesis over time.

Methods: We developed laser-induced CNV models of FGF2-tg and wild-type (WT) mice and then separated them into two groups using different laser photocoagulation (PC) conditions.

Secondary spontaneous pneumothorax during chemotherapy with bevacizumab for cervical cancer: a case report and literature review.

Secondary spontaneous pneumothorax (SSP) due to bevacizumab has been reported in other malignancies but not in cervical cancer. We present the case of a 57-year-old woman with stage IIIB cervical cancer who developed SSP during bevacizumab chemotherapy. Despite complete remission with cisplatin-based chemoradiotherapy, she experienced a recurrence 9 months later.

Influence of COVID-19 on the clinical characteristics of patients with uterine cervical cancer in Japan: A single-center retrospective study.

Aim: This study investigated the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on the clinical characteristics and interregional movement of patients with uterine cervical cancer.

Methods: This study included 1189 patients who underwent treatment for cervical cancer, including cervical intraepithelial neoplasm and adenocarcinoma in situ, at our hospital in Tokyo, Japan, in 2017-2018 and in 2021, before and after the pandemic, respectively. The patients' clinical information was compared during both periods.

Preoperative diagnosis of cervical cystic lesions using magnetic resonance imaging: a retrospective study.

Background: We conducted this study to clarify the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) characteristics of lobular endocervical glandular hyperplasia (LEGH) and Nabothian cysts.

Methods: This study included 48 patients who underwent hysterectomy at our institution between 2016 and 2020 for suspected LEGH. Histopathological studies confirmed the presence of 25 Nabothian cysts and 23 cases of LEGH.

Multiracial people report higher mean Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) scores and prevalence of anxiety than other racial groups. Studies using statistical interactions to test if associations between ACEs and anxiety are greater for this group than others have shown mixed results. Using data from waves 1 (1995-1997) through 4 (2008-2009) of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Add Health), we simulated a stochastic intervention over 1000 resampled datasets to estimate the race-specific cases averted per 1000 of anxiety if all racial groups had the same exposure distribution of ACEs as Whites.

Differences in collateral vessel formation after experimental retinal vein occlusion in spontaneously hypertensive rats and wild-type rats.

Objective: Retinal vein occlusion (RVO) can lead to visual impairment, but the development of collateral vessels can sometimes mitigate significant damage. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between collateral vessels and hypertension, the most common underlying condition associated with RVO, by comparing spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) and wild-type Wister rats (WWRs). We also examined the differences between WWRs and SHRs in terms of sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor 1 (S1PR1) expression and its product nitric oxide synthase 3 (NOS3) expression, which are involved in the formation of collateral vessels after vascular occlusion.

Methods: We analyzed patients who underwent laparoscopic radical hysterectomy for early-stage cervical cancer from 2014 to 2019. The primary endpoint was the time required for aVUL dissection.

We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients with CUP.

Pelvic exenteration (PE) is a highly invasive procedure associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. Laparoscopy is a promising option to reduce this invasiveness, and laparoscopic PE significantly reduces blood loss and shortens hospital stays. Malaysia is one of the top exporters of palm oil, and although currently facing fierce resistance towards palm oil imports in some parts of the globe, one of the ways to utilize this commodity is by increasing palm biodiesel content in local commercial diesel. However, due to the oxygen-rich nature of biodiesel, its utilization suffers from increased nitrogen oxides (NO) emission compared to conventional diesel. To mitigate this issue and improve diesel engine performance and emissions using biodiesel-diesel blends, this study attempted to investigate implementation of a real-time non-surfactant emulsion fuel supply system (RTES) which produces water-in-diesel emulsion as fuel without surfactants.

Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) have been used for orthopedic and dental application due to their osteoinductive properties; however, substantial numbers of adverse reactions such as heterotopic bone formation, increased bone resorption and greater cancer risk have been reported. Since bone morphogenetic proteins signaling exerts pleiotropic effects on various tissues, it is crucial to understand tissue-specific and context-dependent functions of bone morphogenetic proteins. We previously reported that loss-of-function of bone morphogenetic proteins receptor type IA (BMPR1A) in osteoblasts leads to more bone mass in mice partly due to inhibition of bone resorption, indicating that bone morphogenetic protein signaling in osteoblasts promotes osteoclast function.

HER2 as a potential therapeutic target on quiescent prostate cancer cells.

Quiescent prostate cancer (PCa) cells are common in tumors but are often resistant to chemotherapy. Quiescent PCa cells are also enriched for a stem-like tumor initiating population, and can lead to recurrence after dormancy. Unfortunately, quiescent PCa cells are difficult to identify and / or target with treatment in part because the relevant markers are intracellular and regulated by protein stability.
