Article Synopsis
  • - Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is linked to increased risks of sarcopenia (muscle loss) and has a complex relationship with osteoporosis (OP) in postmenopausal women, highlighting the need for further study on these connections.
  • - A study involving 444 postmenopausal women found that those with DM had higher rates of sarcopenia (23.4%) and lower rates of OP (33.5%) compared to controls, suggesting differing impacts of DM on muscle and bone health.
  • - Results indicated that longer menopause duration positively influenced OP risk, while higher age and body mass index correlated with greater sarcopenia risk; DM appeared to negatively impact OLST scores, reflecting challenges

Previous evidence suggests elevated levels of oxidatively-induced DNA damage, particularly 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OH-dG), and abnormalities in the repair of 8-OH-dG by the base excision repair (BER) in bipolar disorder (BD). However, the genetic disposition of these abnormalities remains unknown. In this study, we aimed to investigate the levels of oxidatively-induced DNA damage and BER mechanisms in individuals with BD and their siblings, as compared to healthy controls (HCs).

Background: Femur intertrochanteric fractures are performed commonly in a supine position with a traction table. There is a challenge in obtaining traction tables, especially in low- and middle-income countries. However, there is still a debate on which position should be preferred if the traction table cannot be obtained.

Background: The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system was shown to be activated in severe COVID-19 infection. We aimed to investigate the relationship between angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) levels, ACE gene polymorphism, type 2 diabetes (T2DM), and hypertension (HT) and the prognosis of COVID-19 infection.

Methods: This cross-sectional study analyzed the clinical features of adult patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Unlabelled: As muscle and bone are closely-related, we have explored the association between sarcopenia-related measurements and bone mineral density (BMD) (and osteoporosis) in postmenopausal women. Grip strength, anterior thigh muscle thickness and chair stand test were found to be related with BMD. Additionally, grip strength < 22 kg increased the odds ratio of osteoporosis 1.

Objective: This study aimed to determine the anatomical risk factors that may play a role in the etiology of medial-sided osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLT) using morphological parameters in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Subjects And Methods: One hundred twenty-four patients with medial-sided OLT and age- and sex-matched 124 controls were included in this retrospective study. Two examiners conducted independent OLT classification and measurements of five MRI parameters: tibial axis-medial malleolus angle (TMM), the anterior opening angle of the talus (AOT), talus position (TalPos), the ratio of the distal tibial articular surface to the length of the trochlea tali arc (TAS/TAL), depth of the incisura fibularis (IncDep).

Background: There is no knowledge about the effects of kinesio taping (KT) on the radial nerve in lateral epicondylitis.

Objective: This study aimed to determine the effects of non-steroidal-anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) combined with KT on lateral epicondylitis using ultrasonographic findings.

Methods: NSAID therapy was administered to the control group for 10 days, and the KT group additionally received KT three times a week for two weeks.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate whether or not radial deviation developing after wrist involvement of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a cause of median nerve swelling.

Patients And Methods: The study included 51 RA patients (12 males, 39 females; mean age 50.9±8.

Background: Ultrasonography (US) is noninvasive, readily available, and cheap. The diameter of inferior vena cava (dIVC) and its respiratory variation were proposed as a good surrogate of the hemodynamic state. However, recent studies have shown conflicting results, and the value of IVC-derived parameters in the estimation of fluid status and hemorrhage remains unclear.

Introduction: The diagnostic accuracy of the FAST exam performed by EM residents were shown to be similar to radiology residents. However, in the last 2 decades, an extended-FAST (E-FAST) protocol including thoracic examination to exclude pneumo- and hemothorax was introduced. The accuracy of emergency physicians (EPs) while performing E-FAST is a less studied area, especially in Europe.

Cardiac syncope can be classified as being either structural or dysrhythmogenic in origin, and it may be the only warning symptom of sudden cardiac death. One of the causes of dysrhythmic sudden cardiac death in young adults with structurally normal hearts is Brugada syndrome. Electrocardiogram (ECG) of Brugada syndrome is characterized by an ST-segment elevation in the right precordial leads.
