Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cell count, morphology and flow cytometric evaluations are used to investigate central nervous system (CNS) involvement in leukemia/lymphoma. We performed CSF short tandem repeat (STR) analysis to monitor CSF chimerism status and evaluate for disease involvement in 11 asymptomatic pediatric allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients with hemato-lymphoid neoplasms and high risk for or history of CNS involvement. Eighteen (64%) of the samples with median CSF cell count of 1/mm with 90% lymphocytes gave conclusive STR results, suggesting that this DNA-based method can be used in monitoring CSF chimerism status after HSCT with an acceptable yield.

Retrospective chart review identified patients who received bortezomib for acute (n = 3, within two wk of diagnosis) and chronic (n = 1, three months after diagnosis) AMR or as part of a desensitization regimen (n = 1). Bortezomib was associated with a 3-66% reduction in class I DSA and a 7-82% reduction in class II DSA.

HLA subtypes have been shown to play an important part in the determination of islet-cell autoimmunity and in the pace and intensity of the beta-cell destructive process.
Objectives: Our goals were to: 1) outline auxologic, autoimmune, and HLA class II characteristics of children diagnosed with type 1 diabetes before 5 years of age (EOD); 2) evaluate differences between EOD and later-onset or non-age-stratified type 1 diabetes; and 3) investigate the relation between type 1 diabetes-related HLA subtypes and markers of diabetic autoimmunity in EOD.
