Ross procedure versus pulmonary homograft versus mechanical valve versus bioprosthetic valve versus Ozaki procedure for surgical aortic valve replacement: a frequentist network meta-analysis.

Background: There has been a resurgence in interest regarding the Ross procedure due to recent publications detailing positive long-term outcomes. Conversely, surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) with a pulmonary homograft (PH), mechanical (MV), bioprosthetic (BV), or the Ozaki procedure each has its own technical advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, we performed a network meta-analysis (NMA) comparing other alternatives to Ross procedure.

A Rare Case of Idiopathic Capillary Leak Syndrome.

Idiopathic capillary leak syndrome (ICLS) occurs as a result of vascular membrane instability, which results in the leakage of several proteins from the vascular compartment to the interstitial spaces. It is an extremely rare disorder, with around 260 cases documented thus far. We present a case of a 35-year-old male with a past medical history of asthma and gastroesophageal reflux disease who initially presented to our hospital for the treatment of chronic demyelinating inflammatory neuropathy requiring plasmapheresis and steroid therapy.

Clinico-pathological assessment of surgically removed abdominal wall endometriomas following cesarean section.

Background: Over the past few decades, the rate of Cesarean Section (CS) delivery has been rising rapidly and the prevalence of CS-associated complications including Abdominal Wall Endometriomas (AWE) increases with each additional operation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical characteristics, histopathological diagnostic role and surgical management of post-CS AWE through a retrospective case review.

Methods: We calculated the incidence of AWE and reviewed all the patients underwent surgical removal of Post-CS AWE during the period of 2012-2018 who were diagnosed, treated and followed up for 2-8 years at our tertiary hospital.

Resistance of Helicobacter pylori to tetracycline, amoxicillin, clarithromycin and metronidazole in Israeli children and adults.

The aim of this study was to examine Helicobacter pylori-resistance rate to different antibiotics: tetracycline, amoxicillin, clarithromycin and metronidazole, and to compare eradication rates in adults and children in Israel. The study was based on the hypothesis of high-resistance rates to clarithromycin and metronidazole especially in adults and overall low-resistance rates to tetracycline and amoxicillin. One seventy six biopsies from patients with dyspeptic symptoms were cultured of which 100 were from adults (19-79 years) and 76 from children (7-17 years).

Intramuscular olanzapine versus short-acting typical intramuscular antipsychotics: comparison of real-life effectiveness in the treatment of agitation.

Objective: To compare the effectiveness of intramuscular (IM) olanzapine and typical IM antipsychotics in naturalistically treated acutely agitated patients with schizophrenia or acute mania.

Methods: During the acute phase, 2011 inpatients (including emergency settings) were assessed at 2, 24 and 72 h, and 7 days following initial injection and on oral antipsychotic transition. Mean change in agitation was assessed via Positive and Negative Symptom Scale-Excited Component (PANSS-EC) and Clinical Global Impressions-Severity (CGI-S) scores.

Fluconazole improves survival in septic shock: a randomized double-blind prospective study.

Objective: To demonstrate whether fluconazole reduces multiple organ failure and mortality in early septic shock (<24 hrs).

Design: A prospective randomized double-blind study.

Setting: A medical and surgical adult intensive care unit in a tertiary referral center.
