Article Synopsis
  • * The study analyzed 89 eyes from 70 children treated for RRD at King Abdul-Aziz University Hospital over an 11-year period, noting that many children had pre-existing ocular conditions.
  • * While the majority of surgical interventions resulted in successful anatomical outcomes, visual improvements were less consistent, often hampered by corneal complications and other associated ocular issues.

Purpose: Refractive errors are common in Saudi Arabia and keratorefractive surgeries are usually done to correct them. However, not all patients are fit and complications postoperatively are a concern. Implantable collamer lens (ICL) implantation can be used for patients who are not fit for keratorefractive surgeries.

Article Synopsis
  • A standardized tool called the Activity Independence Measure for Trauma (AIM-T) was created to assess patients' daily activity independence after experiencing trauma in humanitarian settings.
  • This study focused on refining the AIM-T by reducing the number of items from the original version (AIM-T1) based on data from 635 patients across several countries, resulting in a shorter version (AIM-T2).
  • The final version, AIM-T3, includes 12 highly relevant and culturally appropriate items, making it a potentially effective measure for clinicians to use in evaluating trauma patients in various humanitarian contexts.

The lavender L., a medicinal plant grown in arid regions of Tunisia, was recently considered an endangered species; thus, its habitats regressed to some difficult zones in terms of access, such as the watershed of Oued Agareb in central-eastern Tunisia. This species was recorded only in deep and narrow shady Wadi of the watershed and benefited from protection against overgrazing, erosion and sunlight.

Purpose: To report long term results of two cases treated with topical cyclosporin A 1% for keratitis associated with autoimmune polyglandular syndrome (APS1).

Observations: A 25-year-old male and a 17-year-old female were referred from endocrinology as APS1-related autoimmune keratitis. Extended-duration treatment with topical cyclosporin A (CsA) 1% was used for 24 and 18 months, respectively.

The steepest entropy ascent (SEA) dynamical principle provides a general framework for modeling the dynamics of nonequilibrium (NE) phenomena at any level of description, including the atomistic one. It has recently been shown to provide a precise implementation and meaning to the maximum entropy production principle and to encompass many well-established theories of nonequilibrium thermodynamics into a single unifying geometrical framework. Its original formulation in the framework of quantum thermodynamics (QT) assumes the simplest and most natural Fisher-Rao metric to geometrize from a dynamical standpoint the manifold of density operators, which represent the thermodynamic NE states of the system.
