Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is one of the most globally common chronic diseases. Metformin is the most popular prescribed medication for the treatment of diabetes. Studies suggest that metformin is associated with vitamin B12 deficiency, which may impart adverse health complications.

The Effect of Dietary Intake of Vitamin D on Gestational Diabetes Mellitus.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a growing health issue that has been reaching epidemic proportions in the recent years. Low intake of some nutrients like vitamin D may increase the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). This study was to investigate the association between the dietary intake of Vitamin D and GDM among women in the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia.

Eating foods high in added sugar has recently increased among people of all ages. This is expected to negatively affect health and life quality. This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between added sugar intake and sleep quality among university students.

Impact of metabolic syndrome on nutrients intakes among Saudi females.

Objective: To estimate the adequacy of nutrients intake among females with metabolic syndrome.

Methods: The quantitative case-control study was conducted in November 2015 at King Fahd University Hospital, Al Khobar, Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia, and comprised patients who had three or more risk factors associated with metabolic syndrome. Group I had patients who met three of the six criteria components, Group II had those who met four components, and Group III had those who met more than four components.

Effect of aqueous extract of tops of date palm leaves on blood glucose of diabetic rats.

Present study was carried out to examine the effect of tops of date palm leaves extract on blood glucose of streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. Forty male Sprague Dawely rats (120-130g) were housed individually and randomly allocated to two main groups; diabetic group (n=30), and normal group (n=10) in the animal lab, Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Qassim University, Saudi Arabia. An aqueous extracts were prepared from tops of date palm leaves (EDPL) and were orally administered to rats.

CP12 is a small, redox-sensitive protein, the most detailed understanding of which is the thioredoxin-mediated regulation of the Calvin-Benson cycle, where it facilitates the formation of a complex between glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) and phosphoribulokinase (PRK) in response to changes in light intensity. In most organisms, CP12 proteins are encoded by small multigene families, where the importance of each individual CP12 gene in vivo has not yet been reported. We used Arabidopsis thaliana T-DNA mutants and RNAi transgenic lines with reduced levels of CP12 transcript to determine the relative importance of each of the CP12 genes.

Validation of the Leeds Food Preference Questionnaire in Arabs.

The Leeds Food Preference Questionnaire (LFPQ) is a computerised procedure that assesses liking, wanting and relative preferences for shared characteristics of food. This study adapted the LFPQ (LFPQ-A) to assess its cross-cultural validity in an Arab sample by examining its performance for food characteristics of fat (high or low) and taste (sweet or nonsweet), under fasted and fed states. Individual differences in eating behaviour were examined by testing for associations between the LFPQ-A outcomes and subscales of the Three Factor Eating Questionnaire (TFEQ).
